I really, really wouldn't recommend playing with a controller for the inventory management (real time if I remember correctly) let alone the actual fighting.

I'm not gonna. It's just much more comfy chilling on the couch than sitting at the desk. Wish I had a wireless keyboard.

The zone is not a comfy place, comrade.

Should I buy Talos Principle? Its only 10 burger tokens on steam right now. Just not entirely sure I'd be into it. I don't really play puzzle games at all but I did like Portal 1 and 2.

I did a dry run with no mods. Biggest issue is that saves aren't showing up in the load menu, so when I die I'm fucked. I'll have to figure that one out. EDIT: I figured it out.

Talos: Honestly, The Swapper is only $2.84, it's a great puzzle game, and perfectly representative of how the Talos puzzles get your mind working. Ignore the dumb philosophy narrative and enjoy the puzzles and atmosphere. Talos is kinda like Portal in that the puzzles are logical and stick to a particular theme (the cubes in Portal, laser streams in TTP) and are accompanied by a narrative. It's also a philosophically-driven narrative, but not boring like Swapper's, and mostly optional if you don't give a shit.

I already own The Swapper, never played it (think I got it in a humble bundle ages ago) so I suppose I'll try that instead and if I like it I can get Talos at a later date.

This is a problem a lot of games still have today. Why can't they get maps right, especially when they have sidequests where you're actively using them. It's crazy.

What's the problem with the map? It's been a while... I seem to remember the PDA working serviceably.

It doesn't move with the mouse, you have to click and hold to move it. It's also awkward with zooming and markers disappear if you zoom out too far.

I do like how your early weapons don't shoot far enough to hit distant enemies, and enemy AI is clever enough to take a few shots and get out sight, which goads you into moving closer, potentially into danger. It also makes a kill feel a little rewarding.

Interesting, click and hold just feels like the natural way to move a map with a mouse to me. I actually find it irritating when maps move because you simply moused over near the border.

I don't remember markers disappearing, not sure if that's something the reclamation mod addresses or not, though I do remember the map showing the entire world and you zoom into each zone as you want to, so I suppose it only shows markers or the zone you're looking at or something.

It could just be that I'm used to console games where you use the right analogue stick with maps.

I do have the reclamation mod, but I'm not sure what it changes since I didn't get far before I installed it. The mod details don't mention map stuff. It's not a big deal, just a pet peeve.

About 3 hours into STALKER. It's okay. I'm admittedly not wowed by anything yet. The atmosphere is a highlight - it's cool how a day lasts so long, and I like the transition from dusk to nighttime. To be fair, I'm just not enjoying sitting at this desk. I'll have to get a wireless keyboard.

The new Metro game is going open world so 'm hoping that will fill the STALKER-sized hole in my heart.

Yeah I rather enjoyed both Metro games, especially in the parts where they open up so a more open world based Metro game, if they do it right, will be a good substitute for STALKER.
