Pirated games never work for me. Admittedly, I've only tried it with a couple of games, but the most recent one, Portal 2, kept freezing on the title screen. It mildly annoyed me. I then had to buy the retail version at Heathrow airport. It was reasonably priced and I still had a bunch of unspent pounds, so it probably worked out for the best anyway. |

BTW, wasn't Portal 2 a bit of a disappointment after the brilliance of the first game? I barely even remember it. |

I enjoyed it. The plot was funny, gameplay was fun, but the puzzles were a little too easy. You should really get The Talos Principle, it's great. |

South Park: the combat is fun, it's definitely funny, though exploring town is kind of a chore due to slow movement and an awkward layout. The humour is a step above Stick of Truth because it's not as reliant on referencing the show. The reveal of the villain is hilarious.

Dirt Rally makes me swear more than Dark Souls 3 but has a strangely addicting quality to it. It's much more of a simulator than DiRT 2 & 3, and is far more difficult in its driving as a result, but its as though the conditions for success are different from those games. In the previous 2 dirt games you could pretty much consider anything other than first place a failure, but finishing in the top 3 is a good result in this one. It's not so much about perfection but about maintaining a consistent level of driving, not damaging your vehicle and avoiding driving right off the road and taking a 15 second penalty. It's faster to go slower... Definitely less accessible, but more rewarding. It's also just a refreshing game to play, since I rarely play racers, and off road stuff is the most appealing to me. Makes me think of Motorstorm, that was pretty fun. Edited by Doomguy, Oct 21 2017, 03:50 PM.

Amnesia is like any shitty horror game a n00b would make in the Unity engine. The voice acting is the only thing elevating it above that. |

I already finished the Forza 7 career mode. Overall the game is a drop in quality from 6 and way below Horizon 3. No doubt caused by MS wanting the game to be 4k/60fps, they had to rush it. Plus making credits harder to come by to encourage people to buy loot crates is evil (so far no option to use real money and might stay that way with the huge backlash from players). Also 3 weeks in and no auction house, mp leagues and forzathon events up. They released 2 updates in the first week and a half with one of them to fix a credit exploit. As well as reducing the credits you can get from Forza edition cars rather than fixing many other real issues, certainly showed what is more important to them. |

Agreed. An extraordinarily overrated game. The gameplay itself is so shallow and tedious. You don't do anything, you just creep around in the dark like Gollum, interact with doors and drawers and solve some insulting puzzles. |

The puzzles aren't even puzzles and you have to die to learn things like how to avoid the invisible water monster's attacks. I'm not against this genre entirely -- I played Outlast and had a good time -- but this was constantly frustrating to play. Outlast does the light/dark thing pretty well. Here it's just confounding because you're forced into the dark most of the time, can barely see anything in it, and have to deal with visual insanity effects on top of it. It's aiming for atmosphere, but it was simply pissing me off. Also, for a game that recommends you wear headphones, the sound quality is pisspoor. I stopped after the water section. |

Hey Doomguy have you played the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games? Are they good? Which is best? |

I sure have. They're rough around the edges, but they're absolute diamonds. Kinda clunky, but very functional gunplay with a rewarding amount of difficulty to make the zone feel like a dangerous, hostile place. It's mostly about the atmosphere (which is superb) and traversing the zone for the sake of exploring and getting better gear, with a very basic plot holding it together. I still regard arriving in Chernobyl City and then the CNPP immediately after as top 10 gaming moments for me. It was kinda surreal exploring such an infamous and fascinating real world location in a game like that, especially enhanced with the supernatural flavour of the game. Quality wise I'd say the series actually somewhat closely mirrors the DS trilogy, with the exception that I think TECHNICALLY the 2nd and 3rd games are actually standalone expansion to the first, though they are the size of full games. The first one (Shadow of Chernobyl) is definitely the best experience that left the biggest impression on me, but suffers (only very slightly) from a lack of the some of the improvements that came later. The second one (clear sky) is definitely the worst but not even a bad game, and worth playing if you fell in love with SoC. The third one (Call of Pripyat) rivals SoC, being the best gameplay experience in it's stock form and having more new original content than Clear Sky but not being quite as compelling of an experience as the first game was. My advice would be get Shadow of Chernobyl if you're curious. What operating system do you use? When I played it on Win7 it was fine but I tried playing it with Win10 a couple years ago and had performance issues with it (they're probably fixable). There's also some mods you should probably install, I'll try to find what they were. They're faithful to the vanilla experience, they just address some issues. In conclusion, I'd definitely recommend trying it out. If you let it get its hooks into you, you'll be squatting around a bonfire in your trackpants, guzzling vodka to quell your rad poisoning and playing your acoustic guitar as your trusty kalashnikov sits faithfully by your side. Now get out of here, Stalker! Edited by Doomguy, Oct 27 2017, 02:09 PM.

That's right, I saved this image from /v/ years ago when I first played SoC, I knew I'd need it again. This should tell you all you need if you decide to take the plunge.

Thanks! I'll get the 3-game bundle, which is only $12USD on sale! I've been vaguely aware of it as an underappreciated, better (later) Fallout and feel like playing a shooter (was also considering Wolfenstein and Doom for PS4). I have Win10 but will scope out some mods/fixes before playing. |

Cool, that's $12 well spent. Hopefully you shouldn't have too many issues running them, especially if you turn things down. SoC is a decade old now. STALKER 2 being cancelled is the most butthurt at the game industry I've ever been. Edited by Doomguy, Oct 27 2017, 02:20 PM.

ughhh no controller support. Not a huge setback, but I was planning on playing it on the TV. My HDMI cord is too small to reach the couch. |
