So the other night completed DSIII by beating Nameless King Spoiler: click to toggle . It wasn't me giving up, though, as it was a good excuse to try out co-op with a friend who I had been playing PUBG with that night and when I mentioned I was going to try beat him he offered to help. We had to work for it, though. Not only did we have to trouble shoot for about 40 minutes to actually be able to summon one another but the closest character he had available was a few bosses away, so we ran through those together and then beat Nameless King first try. I'm confident if I had spent that same time just trying him over and over I would've beat him anyway as I was getting his 2nd phase down to half health on my own, but it was fun to play with a friend anyhow.I'm currently playing Beyond Good and Evil, which I'm rather enjoying. I tried playing it back in 2011 or 2012 and dropped it after a while, I suppose I just wasn't interested in what it was about but I really appreciate its personality and style now. It's a comfy game, and is also very gracefully aged for a 2003 game, the water effects are honestly amazing for a game of that time period, they still look nice today. I'm really fond of the way games looked in the early and mid 2000s, many of the better examples look really crisp, clear and clean. Games today, I think, tend to be a bit too over-saturated with effects like bloom lighting and blur. High quality modeling, animations and textures with a good, cohesive visual style is key. I watched a video of the sequel, man, it looks pretty damn ambitious. A comparison to No Man's Sky immediately comes to mind, but I think since it's not procedural generation, if they set it in a single system of 6-8 planets and hand crafted the whole thing it could totally work. Flying around in the ship/s and with the jetpack looks pretty damn cool. Will be interesting to see what happens with that game. Edited by Doomguy, Sep 21 2017, 02:30 PM.

I've played through BGAE 1.5 times and can't remember anything except your uncle is a pig and there's stealth. I don't even remember what the gameplay involves. I should give it another go. It was pretty good, though I wasn't in love with it like some people are. |

It's what you said and that mainly that you're uncovering a conspiracy of human trafficking by taking photos and speeding around the water based overworld with your hovercraft. |

Well I just finished it, a nice little game. I feel similar to you that I'm not crazy about it, its not really the type of game that I find especially exciting but it was pretty enjoyable. A shame it sold poorly, it deserved to do better. There's a small little bit of sequel bait at the end of the credits, apparently it was intended as the start of a trilogy but unfortunately it sold poorly and never got off the ground. Apparently the upcoming 2 is going to be a prequel, as well. |

I'm digging Darkest Dungeon. Part XCOM (in strategic terms), part Rogue Legacy, wrapped up in traditional but fun fast-paced turn-based combat. I haven't really been challenged by it yet - it's not as immediately brutal as XCOM is towards mistakes - but I know it gets hard, and I'm getting attached to my heroes already. No deaths yet... |

I just got Darkest Dungeon about a week or so ago as well. It's great but I've been challenged a lot by it. Had to give up on a number of quests and retreat back to the town. |

Yeah I played a bit this morning and lost a couple of guys and had to retreat. The RPG aspect is great. One guy got so stressed out he became abusive, hurling insults at others and even stabbing them out of anger. Then he had a heart attack and died. |

Nioh is coming to steam. May or may not get it. |

Wait for a sale. That said, some people loved it more than I did and it's definitely good. My biggest mistake was doing all of the side missions, which vary little, and getting bored about 3/4ths through. If you're less finicky than me you'll probably spend your time better. I always wait for better prices anyway, my biggest concern about it is a lack of environmental variety, I heard its pretty samey in that regard. It does look like fun, though, the combat seems quite nice. I also will, as always, wait to to see if the PC version is any good. I have the recommended graphics and approximately the same as the recommended CPU, and twice the required RAM, but they're saying its going to be 100 (one hundred) gigabytes. If that ends up being true I might literally wait until I have NBN and probably a second SSD. I get the developers and publishers are purposefully letting games become bloated as an anti-piracy measure, but jesus christ. 100 fucking gigs for a dark souls clone. DSIII is just under 21GB on my PC right now. Sure, Nioh includes DLC but come on. What justifies it being 5 times the size?

They're on the ball clamping down on pirating by punishing everyone. How does that even work exactly? Is it to deter people from hosting it? |

I guess it beats really intrusive DRM that only punishes the people that buy it while the pirates enjoy the superior version of the game. It's just more inconvenient for everyone involved. It's a lot of data for the seeders to upload, and the downloader is going to have to deal with much less reliable of a download stream than they'd get from an official source, but also if you're pirate and you want a "collection" you've got to keep that numerous GB game stored somewhere in addition to it being installed when you want to play it, which will add up quickly. It makes the cloud storage of your library with services like steam pretty appealing. That said, some pirates do repack the games to make them smaller, so that can help. Honestly, while I've never been a big game pirate, I find that the bigger deterrent (which I'm not sure is as intentional) is just how often games get updated now. Have fun waiting for your pirate group of choice to release the patches rather than just having it auto-patch on steam. Looking back to the way things were last gen, when games were overwhelmingly well under 10GB and were much less patch laden, it was far more convenient to try games for free. It's a shame, but I could deal with it if releasing demos was a standard thing again like it was 15 years ago. I miss that, but I suppose there's been market research done to show it isn't worth the resources, and a good deal of these companies probably don't have enough faith in their products anyhow... |

I'm also not a big pirate. I mostly get games from defunct consoles. I even bought the Virtual Console versions of Chrono Trigger and Paper Mario after playing them years earlier on an emulator. I never mess with PC games. Steam is a great service overall anyway. I've seen some big title demos cropping up on PS4 lately, like Prey and Mass Effect. I'd try ME if the download wasn't the size of the normal game. |

That is another way of doing things that I approve of, downloading the full game and having access to the the first couple hours or so and then having the option to buy it to continue on seamlessly. |

I'm still playing XCOM almost a month after starting, playing most days. I've actually played the expansion more than I ever played XCOM 1 or vanilla 2. It ownzzzzz. |
