I shouldn't get that Sonic game since I already own the PS2 collection and I don't even like Sonic very much but I kinda want it.

Yeah after a couple of failed attempts last night I decided to take a bit of a breather from the game. I've played an embarrassing amount of it since getting it. 39 hours in just over a week, I mean fuck.

Anyway it seems like it's III's Smough & Ornstein equivalent. I still don't particularly enjoy the fight, I think its hard for the wrong reasons, or at least reasons that I don't find fun. I've figured out the first phase fine and as long as I don't lose patience (which I do because honestly this phase is actually pretty tedious imo) I can beat it without taking much punishment as well as avoiding the camera problems I was so annoyed at initially. What sucks though is it means I've got to put up with a slow first phase in order to be able to get up to the second and actually learn it. I've only had two attempts at the king which hasn't been enough for me as he seems pretty unpredictable and brutal in his attack patterns. He's not as readable as most bosses and is pretty fucking aggressive.

I'll return to it later this week, use a shield that blocks lightning as much as possible and if that isn't enough I'll look into other tips for the fight. Not gonna summon, though, that just wouldn't be right.

If I wanted the sonic experience I'd just go for a drive without my glasses.

Nameless King is the hardest boss in the game (arguably series) and you should probably do everything else before taking him on again.

I don't know about hardest, O&S and Manus definitely gave me more trouble.

I've only beaten him once or twice and dread trying it again so I can't be too sure. I died over 20 times though.

On my recent playthrough I couldn't be f'd with the optional dragon boss in Ringed City so maybe that's hard I don't know.

So I was talking to my D&D buddies before our session last night and I found out that this is an optional boss fight! The entire reason I came to Archdragon Peak was because of the two dragons blocking the way at the bridge at Lothric Castle's Dragon Barrocks and I thought I had to do something here to get rid of them. It's a relief to know I can come back and do this fight later when I'm at my strongest but now I have no idea what I'm supposed to do  . I was told that I'd kick myself when I figure out what I was supposed to do, though.

Oh okay so you jump off the bridge rather than cross it.

OK now I'm really wondering if I'm just over-leveled or something, because I'm killing a lot of bosses in this game first try, way more than I ever did in the first two games. I got up to Dragonslayer Armour just before, a boss that a friend indicated was difficult, but I beat him first try without a sweat.

Could it be balancing through patches that has tampered with the difficulty of some of the bosses?

You're not really overlevelled, it's just that you're pimped out in all the right stats. It would've helped that you went to Archdragon Peak and Untended Graves first, but still, everyone has the odd boss they do well against.

My 1st shot killz were Old Demon King, Champion Gundyr and the final boss.

Yeah, maybe. I did have a much better idea of what all the stats did in this game so maybe I've just done a better build this time. I don't know if its because the game encourages it more but I'm definitely dodging a lot more than in the first game which I seem to remember doing substantially more blocking in. Avoiding being hit at all is a lot better than mitigating a hit.

I also first shot ODK and Champion Gundyr as well. When I've finished the game I'll go through a list of bosses and count up how many were first try, because there's a pretty large stack of them.
