I've been trying to play Advanced Warfare but the game just crashes every 5-10 minutes. Extremely frustrating - even moreso as it seems to be a common issue. Working through all the potential fixes now but... }:/ |

Yeah I went through it fairly fast. I'm not much of a completionist, I just got all the upgrades that I wanted and I did all the extra tombs I came across. Honestly its been too long since I played the 2013 game for me to really have a whole lot of opinion on the overall story and campaign quality but I did like that it was a bit longer and I agree about the weapons and upgrades. I did actually think the very end of the 2013 game where she whips out the dual pistols in the final boss was actually pretty cool. As someone who basically never played the old games, even I recognise that as iconic for her just from the artwork I remember seeing as a kid, yet she doesn't use them at all in this game?? I bought a key for the 20th anniversary version so I have the DLC, I played the Baba Yaga one as I went through, which was OK but nothing special, very predictable story. I will play the other ones (at least try them) when I take a break from Dank Souls. |

Yeah I have the 20th anniversary edition as well so got all the extras. I actually replayed the 2013 game prior to starting to this so I had a very obvious comparison. After I complete the main game ill jump onto the mansion extras and move onto another game. |

Irithyll might be simultaneously the prettiest zone I've seen in the DS trilogy but also the most annoying to actually play in the game so far. These fire wielding priests with their escorts are pretty cancer, I basically cannot deal with them right now, and these invisible guys are tedious to take care of methodically. Really punishes you for losing patience, more than normal. Edited by Doomguy, Aug 11 2017, 07:41 PM.

The most annoying area is Farron Keep, fuck that shit. Irythyll's second half (after the next boss fight, which is a good one) is much better. By the way, did you find Smouldering Lake? |

I did not. I feel like I've been semi-thorough with my exploration so far but I've not done every nook and cranny, I don't believe I've found any hidden zones. I'm taking comfort in being able to do them later after I finish, I suppose, at least assuming that the difficultly and loot rewards would not be substantially diminished if I waited until then? By the way, should I have found those people that allow you to re-level by now or is that a bit further. I'm 21 hours deep. Edited by Doomguy, Aug 11 2017, 08:39 PM.

I think that's honestly a problem with the souls series. It's pretty easy to forget about certain paths that you couldn't get through and you intend on coming back to later, because so many of them add up over time. Maybe taking notes of unexplored paths would pay off, or at the very least revisiting each zone every now and then to remind yourself of what remains uncharted. |

Yes you should have found it. It's in Cathedral of the Deep. Spoiler: click to toggle Smouldering Lake would be pretty easy at the end, but it's pretty unforgiving when it's first available so you could leave it for a while. I believe among other things it has two undead bone shards and an estus shard. Edited by Moo, Aug 11 2017, 08:54 PM.

Wait, is it the place with all the slugs and you raise one of those big gates to allow you to get back there more easily? I found that but I didn't say yes or whatever to the person who was there, I thought it was a pact of some kind (Way of the Blue all day erry day). Another thing I have to admit about the DS trilogy, I couldn't even begin to tell you the first thing about the story, I literally have at no point had even an fraction of a grasp about what is supposed to be going on in this world or why I'm supposed to be killing all of these bosses. I've probably said a dozen times that I'm not a story orientated gamer but I can't help but feel I've been missing out by not knowing at least the basics. At the same time, the games are so intentionally vague and don't seem to actually want me to know anything, so why should I care? I'm not going to go out my way for it. |

I like how it's set up in a way where there's a lot of story to be pieced together if you're up for it but you can also completely avoid it. Basic plot is that once upon a time dragons ruled over all, then the gods found fire and overthrew the dragons. The gods ruled for ages but found the fire wasn't infinite: attempting to fuel it they accidentally unleashed chaos (right where you fight Bed of Chaos in DS1) which let demons loose on the world and brought it to ruins. Your mission in DS1 is to either rekindle the dying flame to continue the Age of Fire or put it out to commence the Age of Dark. In DS3 ages have passed again and now you have to do this shit again for some reason I dunno. To be honest... I don't know what's happening in DS3 either. |

OK, that makes sense enough I suppose. Yeah, see, it would've been nice to have known the significance of who I was fighting in the Bed of Chaos, it certainly would have added a sense of weight. I'm a bit too much of a basic bitch to pick up on, or at least bother to pay attention to the small pieces of information they drop and then piece them together. They're just too few and far between for me. I suppose I can just read the wiki entries about each boss, if I really care enough which I probably don't. I guess I just think the games would have been better if they were more obvious with actually explaining and establishing things. I think Metroid Prime would've be a good example of story telling that isn't completely in your face but is accessible enough to be digestible for me.

Metroid Prime's storytelling method is excellent and it's surprising more games haven't lifted it. I guess Dark Souls arguably did, but it's not as accessible. Dark Souls should have the option to view an item description immediately so you don't have to go through the inventory. Even though I'm not entirely sure what DS3's main plot is it does have intriguing subplots. Aldrich is an awesome villain, not that you'd know it if you didn't read item descriptions or take note of what's in his mouth in the boss fight. |
