Haha that is such a generality that it barely means anything at all. I've had bowel movements better than a lot of movies.
Yeah true. I just mean I can't think of a movie that portrays American life as effortlessly and coolly as GTA5 does. The closest thing I can think of is The Sopranos, which it's obviously inspired by in some respects.

I haven't played Vice City or GTA3. I got them in a PS2 bundle a long time ago but never bothered. Loved San Andreas and liked GTA4 (though it's the lame duck of the ones I've played).

I liked gta4 too, but there was always a throb of disappointment in my gut, no matter how hard I tried to suppress it.

San Andreas was simply overwhelming after vice City. I tried it this way and that and then simply gave up. The soundtrack and the actors just didn't remind me of Miami Vice and Scarface so beautifully. I wasn't really into Hip Hop back then though. Maybe that's the difference.

I played 3, VC and SA back to back when I was 16, 4 when I was coming up on 17 and 5 two years ago when it came out on PC. I've also played 1 and 2 a bit, they've aged appallingly and have no appeal at all today imho. 5 is my favourite of the series, I agree about it's portrayal of modern american culture being super smart and extremely funny, but at the same time 5 has a big leg up for me in that it takes place during the time period that I have the most awareness of. I was too young for 3 and 4 to reach me quite as much. San Andreas was my favourite of the PS2 era trilogy just because it was the largest and most ambitious, and I found the early 90s west cost setting appealing as I was into that music at the time.

I had a hyper boner for 4 when it was new, it's probably the most hyped I ever have been or ever will be for a game release. I came back to it a few years later and just found the mission design to be pretty weak and boring a lot of the time. The physics were awesome, though.

A throwaway line that made me laugh in 5:

MICHAEL: Who the fuck are these people?
DAUGHTER: TV people, celebs, drug dealers...
MICHAEL: Since when did drug dealers and TV people start hanging out?

Solo mode has grown on me, at least for now. I'm determined to get a win in this thing, just one... please?

So anyone excited by anything shown at E3? Nothing blew me away especially since it was sequel city. Best announcement for me was Metro Exodus, the rumours floating around for the past two or three years about it being open world appear to be correct which I'm down with. That should make it a worthy spiritual successor to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

Middle Earth Shadow of War looks good, too. A Metroid Prime 4 on the way is cool to hear about. That means that console now has 2 entire games going for it!

That Mario XCOM thing looks neat.

Xbox being garbage was a hoot.

Bethesda sucked.

I don't actually watch the presentations, ever. I just go on gamespot once a year during E3 to see what games have actually been announced and/or shown, and keep it at that. I find presentations utterly unwatchable, partially because I don't care about most of the things they're talking about but primarily because I simply cannot stomach all of the corporate talk. Stuff like "We at Ubisoft have a passion for innovation, crafting unique worlds and experiences, and giving gamers the marketing jargon fellatio they deserve..." has precisely the opposite effect on me than they probably want it to.

Of course, we can't have an event like this without somebody getting triggered over a problematic (or, rather, 110% innocuous) use of language. What a crock of shit.

The Ubisoft Pirate game seemed interesting: essentially Assassin's Creed 4 ship combat without the Assassin's Creed bits. But it is sounding like it might be multi-player only, which is less interesting.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 also sounds interesting, but I was surprised at how many times they said "fuck" in the trailer given the style of the first game.

Insomniac's Spider-Man game looks good: the combat reminds me of the Batman Arkham games, but the web swinging differentiates it. I wonder whether Mr Negative is the main antagonist, or just a throw-away bad guy for the mission shown in the trailer?

Detroit looked like a very David Cage game. The story reminded me of the TV show "Humans", but seemed to be a lot less subtle: hopefully that was just due to the trailer trying to show off the multiple choice adventure game aspects, but I suspect that's not the case.

Assassin's Creed Origins looked very pretty, but it also looked very similar to every other recent AC game. I was expecting more changes given the extended development cycle. Some people have said that the combat was quite different, but it wasn't that obvious from the footage shown. It's nice to see sail boats and interesting underwater scenery return though.

I don't watch them either, except the videos people post of the public relations losers veering awkwardly between corporate marketing and attempts to talk on level with their key demographics.

I lol'd at some Xbox nerd talking about the new Xbox being 4k or whatever and then saying "Now...let's see what this MONSTER can do."

Well, it is David Cage. I look forward to the Super Best Friends Let's Play, which is how I experienced his other games.

Also it was clear Assassin's Creed has learned nothing when they called the game 'Origins'. I wrote it off right then.

Watched most of the presentations except Bethesda because I expected not many announcements and read the comments as I started watching.

Really disappointing E3 overall, struggled to even get through all the presentations to be honest. There were a few games that look kind of interesting, mostly the newer IP's didnt really take notice of the titles.

Felt like Ubisoft actually had the best presentation, followed by EA :snicker: The Sony and MS presentations were both dull.

When Supermassive Games managed to outdo Cage in his own genre with Until Dawn, I kind of hoped he might take it as a challenge. I guess it is a bit early to say what the game will be like.

As far as Assassin's Creed goes, I guess one good change is that there won't be any guns. But they definitely haven't shown anything that would make me want to play it as soon as it is released.

Another one that looked interesting was the Life is Strange follow up. I'm a little cautious though, given that it isn't being developed by Dontnod (which presumably means there will be an actual Life is Strange 2 coming out later), and won't have the rewind mechanics.

Cage's "cinematography" (air quotes for Nuttz) can be weird and silly, but it's also interesting and sometimes great. His main problem is that he simply can't write decent plots or dialogue.
