Finished Yooka-Laylee. I'd give it a 7. It helped that I played a chunk of it on mute while listening to podcasts, so I wasn't getting frustrated by the harder parts. Nintendo Man's right that it only has 5 worlds.

Chess woes. Started the day with a loss, then won 7 in a row. Coupled with yesterday's success, I was becoming convinced that I was getting some real consistency in my game. Rating was 1345, by far the highest ever. And then, BAM, lose 4 in a row. Then I win 2, then, BAM, lose another 4 in a row. Disastrously, I'm back to square one with a 9-9 daily record and a worse rating than when I went to bed last night. And it was all looking so good just a few hours ago :(. Should have quit while I was ahead...

As frustrating as it can get, this chess is surely my favourite video game at the moment, and certainly my favourite online MP game of all time. I can't stop playing the thing...

My ps4 has stopped ejecting discs. Hasn't done it in about a month. It seems to have randomly decided to fix itself. What a weird fucking machine.

My favourite sound effect from Banjo Kazooie was Mumbo's "Eat Cum Poo Cum".

Banjo Kazooie is so overrated. It was OK before I knew any better in n64 days, but I seem to remember it was quite unwieldy and frustrating. I never loved it.

Mine was the same it was so random, I think it depended on the game and how hard it pushed the console.

I think the funny part about Yooka-Laylee and trying to capture the golden age of Rare is that the best Banjo game was Nuts & Bolts on the X360.

It was superior to Super Mario 64 (which was also great). Banjo-Tooie was my favourite N64 game followed by DK 64 and Banjo-Kazooie.

I strongly disagree. It was just create blue prints and use them. Just the over world was good. One of the biggest let downs for me last gen.

It was way better than most people thought.

I agree, it's overrated. This is honestly true of a lot of Rareware games.

Oh wow, I don't have enough money to get to skellige, and I've done all the witcher contracts within my level range. That damn fancy saddlebag I bought for 900 crowns recently killed me. What the hell do I do now? I'm 400 crowns short. How much can I borrow from that dwarf at the Vivaldi bank?

Goldeneye was by far and away the best.

...out of a dozen or so I played.

Sell things to vendors.

It only costs 1000g to go to skellige, you must be desperately poor for that stage in the game. As Moo said, sell excess gear and materials and other stuff to vendors whenever you can and you'll be set for gold.

You can actually get your 1000g back after getting to skellige, so put the 1k together, go there and then read these fully sick spoilers after you arrive.

So I'm 13 hours into Dragon's Dogma. I like the combat and the pawn system, as well as the vocation system. Despite these things I've really just been pressing on through the game to "give it a chance" and out of the belief that it gets better later, rather than out of actual enjoyment. The game world and the quests so far have been overwhelmingly as dull and drab as anything; I sincerely would go back to WoW over what I've seen so far. Seriously, the quests are unjokingly better (or at least more consistent) and Azeroth is way more colourful, varied and interesting. You also know there's something wrong when I of all people notice that the plot is a mere skeleton of a main story so far; it means I'm sufficiently bored for my mind to wander.

I'll keep chipping away at it a little each day for now but it's definitely done nothing to really grab me so far, and my faith that it will get better dwindles. Normally games that don't put their best foot forward demonstrate their worth by the 13 hour mark.
