In reference to talk of INSIDE a while back, whether or not the ending is good doesn't affect that it's memorable. Whenever I think of this game I'll visualize...that.

For the record, I thought the ending was good. I especially like
Spoiler: click to toggle

The trial-and-error deaths can sap the mood, as do the ragdoll physics of the boy's deaths, which look comical at times. This is a shame with a game that's obviously more about aesthetic than story. The puzzles are pretty fun and a deal more involved than Limbo's if I recall. It makes me want to replay Limbo regardless.

Overall a neat, sweet indie.

Deus Ex MD is half a game. As in, Square Enix literally cut the game in half and just released the first half. I didn't learn this until I finished the game, which just fucking ENDS! no warning, plot unresolved, even worse than Phantom Pain. It's a shame because it really improves on Human Revolution in most ways. Definitely worth a cheap buy, but a sad end to an out-of-the-box big franchise.

Well, I loved going through the Deus Ex series (with a big ass break while I played Zelda) and would rank them 1, 4, 3, 2 (didn't finish 2). Goodfellow, you were off the mark when you said MD is basically an expansion of HR - the influence is there, but it builds on it so well and would have been remarkable if it was fucking finished. Even though it isn't, it's definitely the diamond in the rough of AAA horseshit that cluttered the release schedule in late 2016. Since the series might be dead, and I got it for $26 from EB of all places, it's worth buying if you're a fan.

I didn't take my ps4 in after all. Now the warranty has expired. I couldn't be bothered backing up my witcher 3 save (and I certainly wasn't gonna start again), so I let it be. It hasn't been ejecting discs too much lately.

As for DE, I was a big fan of the first two games, but like I said, HR left me indifferent. It's kinda hard building up the enthusiasm for MD now, especially with so many other games demanding my attention.

How long has the warranty been expired for? If it hasn't been long, it still might be worth taking it in.

The last day was the 22nd. Look, the machine works. It doesn't eject while I'm playing anymore. Now it only does it at night, while the ps4 is off and I'm sleeping. Then it beeps insistently until it wakes me up and I have to unplug it to make it stop. It's the weirdest console I've ever had. I think it's haunted. At least it's unique...

I turn off my power switch at the end of each day, not sure why people keep it on.

I have gone all digital myself. Just means I now wait for most games to go on sale on the marketplace.

Mass Effect 2 wasn't anywhere near as good as everyone says or nearly as good as the first one. They completely removed the overarching plot, the exploration, the RPG elements. It was just a bloody crew recruitment simulator in suffocatingly linear environments with lots of cover-based shooting. It makes me sick when someone says it's their favourite game.

The first ME was a disappointment after bioware's sublime KOTOR and excellent Jade Empire, but damn, it feels like a good game in retrospect. For all its flaws, it actually sticks in the memory much more than ME 2.

The first Assassin's Creed is another one that is easily the purest, most atmospheric and best in the series, yet gets no credit because AC2 introduced a quirky protagonist. I swear, people have such shoddy tastes.

I read an interesting article about AC1 that argued the game was originally meant to be played without a minimap. It gives a lot more meaning to the viewpoints and eagle vision when you need to use them to find your objectives instead of just following an icon.

Meh, I didn't mind the minimap. There wasn't an overload of redundant icons. It was all about learning your target's patterns and pouncing at the right moment. I really got a kick out of performing a perfect assassination. In AC2, they got rid of everything that made the first one special. There was literally no stealth. That disappointed me. And in Black Flag, as much as I liked it, there was an overload of tailing missions. It became ridiculous after a while.

I never really liked AC up until Black Flag and that is the last time I want to touch an Ass Creed game. Though I didnt play Brotherhood or Revelations. I wish they went with the more emergent design approach of the first game and tried to actually fix and balance what was there. Instead we got Ubisoft Game™ of checklist gameplay and combat that was never good in the first place. The setting is what draws me in and even then, the AC game I liked the most had a setting that I was interested in the least.

I still hold firmly of the opinion that ME3 is the best game of the three. ME1 is better in retrospect, because when you play it, you probably will be reminded how awful the game plays. It has the best means of exposition and worldbuilding of the bunch with all the cool flavor text everywhere and NPCs laying everything out to establish its universe, which is why people remember it so fondly.

ME2 was just so in the middle of the road. The improvements in the combat didnt go far enough to alleviate how awful the level and encounter design the game has or how binary the combat was. The final mission did make up for it, only to be ruined by one of the worst boss fights ever assembled. And I'd take the Mako over the tedious planet scanning any day of the week. At least the Mako gave the space exploration some purpose in providing a sense of isolation and scale instead of playing some stupid minigame.

ME3 Is the most complete game. While the flavour text and worldbuilding hooks of the past 2 games wasnt there, it does more by showing: taking you to key places that were presented through exposition prior. I think that's perfect for a concluding game. Missions were tightened up this time: Levels with interesting layouts, a sense of verticality that enemy encounters that encourage you to be mobile instead of just sitting there behind a box. The mission designs were fairly textbook stuff (not a bad thing) but it implements them so well within the games' character arcs to heighten up the sense of sense of urgency. And that's the thing with the third game. All Mass Effect games nail it with the characters and the third one ties all the character arcs fairly well even though the concluding ending sucked and should have taken advantage of said characters.

AC2 was released before Ubisoft open-world games turned into a running joke. It's only fault compared to the original is that it tipped the scale towards action and away from stealth, because this has only gotten worse since. Otherwise, the increased freedom strongly complemented the freerunning. The pacing was better too. The original's cutscenes are agonizing, inescapable and relentless. I wouldn't dismiss Ezio so easily, who was a breath of fresh air after the lifeless Altair. The stealth is a far cry from the open-ended thrills of Deus Ex, Metal Gear Solid and Dishonored. Whatever can be said of its atmosphere (I personally prefer Italy in AC2 and Brotherhood), it was diminished in my eyes by the game's constant intrusions. The original was a good idea poorly executed and unfortunately put aside in favour of AC2 style games, which grew stale quite quickly. I did the first mission in Syndicate and never played it again.
