I preferred the 2nd and 3rd games though (especially the combat) the Citadel hub was the best in the first game. Didn't like how they dumbed down the morale aspects of the 3rd game (new new one has removed the paragon/renegade system).

Have any of you guys played Ghost Recon Wildlands yet?

I skipped the third game, which ruins everything really. I'd like to get back into it, but it would mean unpacking the ps3 again, which isn't realistic at the moment.

I must admit, I've had it up to here (picture a throat slashing motion) with medieval rpgs. Futuristic is fine if it must, but what I really want is present day. Why not? I loved alpha protocol despite its lack of polish

It's totally idiotic that the PS4 Pro and Scorpio are targeting fake upsampled 4K for their non VR games instead of 1080p60fps.
Isn't that down to the individual game developers though? While the new consoles open the door to resolutions higher than 1080p, the developer is still in control of what is output. Probably the best example of this is The Witness:

http://the-witness.net/news/2016/11/ps4-pro-patch-update/

If you've got a 1080p TV, the PS4 Pro bumps you up from 900p60 rendering to 1080p60 rendering with better anti-aliasing. If you've got a 4K TV, it offers you a choice of 1440p60 upscaled, or full 4K at 30 fps.

And calling it "fake upsampled 4K" is a bit simplistic. Yes, most of these games aren't offering 4K native resolution, but they are offering higher detail than you'd get at 1080p. Developers are always making trade-offs between detail and frame rate, so it is no surprise that's still happening. With the previous generation of consoles, many developers prized detail over frame rate, and that is still happening.

Novigrad is actually a town in Bosnia, and literally translates into 'Newtown'. Also, there's a Triglav Runestone. Triglav is the highest mountain in the western Balkans. In Slovenia.

Of course it's up to the developers, and most of them will choose gwaffikz over good frame-rates. Deserved props to those that actually make the right choice. I really shouldn't complain too much, though. Multi-plat developers choosing graphics over frame-rate means I get prettier games to play at 60fps on PC.

I don't see what's simplistic about it, it's completely true. I didn't say upscaled 4k wasn't better than 1080p, but it's pan fried ass compared to actual native 4K and the way Sony and Microsoft are advertising these two new system as being truly 4k ready just makes me laugh. Admittedly, you can probably get away with upscaling a lot more on a TV than you can a monitor.

It is simplistic in the sense that it implies that if you can't make the jump all the way from 1080p to 2160p then it isn't worth going half way.

And I don't think the trade-offs are one size fits all. For some games, frame rate is king and it is worth sacrificing quality to achieve it. In other cases, detail is important, and it might be preferable to lock in to a lower frame rate that you know you'll be able to maintain without any lost frames.

Last post for the next 4 days, I promise. The Baron reminds me of Albert Spica from The Cook, the thief, his wife, and her lover. Lots. He sounds pretty well exactly like him, so when the game expected me to empathise with him, I just couldn't. If you watch the film, you'll know what I mean..

It's pathetic that we no longer have access to pirate sites, but you might have some luck if you look for proxybay.org instead of pirate bay. Seriously, watch this film. And read ebert's review, preferably first. It gives some insight. Great movie, great review.

I am admittedly an all or nothing kind of person in a lot of ways, but I'm not really saying a halfway point between the two isn't worth doing. Native 1440p is a worthy step up from 1080p, that's probably the resolution my next monitor will be and then I'll get a 4K monitor some time after that when the prices have come down more. It's the dishonesty about the two systems being 4K that rubs me the wrong way and it'll probably fool a lot of people who don't know any better. Marketing teams pull these kind of fine print stunts all the time, it always annoys me and it's no different here, though in this case I knew immediately that it wasn't going to be native as soon as I heard about it. 4K is still firmly in enthusiast territory to run, there was no way a console was going to pull it off without being drastically expensive.

I also don't think going for 4K at the expense of frame-rate is worth it, because frame-rate is much more important for games than higher resolutions, and the same goes for graphical detail. I'm struggling to think of single game that I personally play where I'd take detail over frame-rate. I'll either turn some settings down to get it to run at 60 or I outright won't play it until l I have the kit to run it properly.

Look up rutracker, bro. You have to make an account for it and it's all in russian (makes me love how convenient translation is in modern browsers) but there's tons of shit on there, including numerous different versions of the film you're talking about.

I am under no illusions that my PS4 pro is actually 4k native, its just upscaling.

Though speaking to a younger guy who I worked with at Pizza Hut who is console only gamer, he is adamant that is pro is 4k. I keep telling him that a $1000 gpu still struggles with 4k, 60fps, how do you expect an entire console which costs half the price to be 4k.

Speaking of 4k gaming, seems like only the new 1080ti is the non compromising card at this stage but still has some issues with some games not getting the full 60fps.

Those games are ones that are usually poorly optimised like Tomb Raider.

Hitting the final stretch now. I've completed the four dungeons but will seek out the final eighteen shrines before fighting Ganon. I'm regretting turning off the Sheikah sensor at the start because there are likely a bunch of shrines I missed as a result. It's just so damn loud though, I couldn't take it when there were still shrines everywhere and it was going off every minute.

I did the dungeons in the order Gerudo, Ruto, Zora and Goron and also like them in that order, while I'd order the pre-dungeon stuff Gerudo, Goron, Zora and Ruto.

I'm still OK with the usual pirate sites as long as the isp block is so pathetically easy to circumvent. It's more the principle of the the ban that annoys me. I always laughed at Britain for enforcing the pirate ban, and now it's been imported here :(.

There's only one proper version of that film. The others must be censored or Russian dubs.

I've been playing Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, since it was free on PS+.

For a game that would often be described as a walking simulator, it's a shame that the "walking" part feels to horrible. By default, the walking speed is incredibly slow. I eventually looked up the help to find that the R2 button lets you walk faster. I didn't manage to work this out myself because instead of immediately increasing in speed, you slowly accelerate up to the faster speed. But every so often it will force you back down to the slow speed (e.g. inside many of the houses).

It may seem like a petty complaint, but exploration is a big part of this genre of game. So if I've got an opportunity to explore somewhere but weight up whether it is worth the time it'll take to walk there and back, that seems like a design fault. I wonder what they were thinking?

Story wise, it is somewhat intriguing so far. I'll be interested to see how it ends.
