While I don't think IW had great writing, there's a particular line uttered by one of the characters towards the end that stuck with me for all these years:
Spoiler: click to toggle
I always thought that was kinda cool. Especially the first sentence.

Yeah it feels very closed in, and it's disappointing that most of the buildings in the city use the same assets. The nightclub is indistinguishable from the external area, for instance.

I wonder why they made the environments in IW so cramped. X-box was more than capable of handling huge worlds and open vistas, as KOTOR and Morrowind amply demonstrated.
I'm pretty sure I've read an interview from the director of IW who said it was the team's first console game and they struggled somewhat on the technological side, especially with utilizing memory on the xbox which was allegedly a bit of a different ball-game or something to that effect. He also said the game was unfinished.

Jeez, it could've made it clear I wouldn't be returning to the original city! I ignored a bunch of sidequests, assuming I could do them after doing the main mission you take the helicopter to.

I might just skip to Human Revolution. I'm not enjoying this much. I'd probably enjoy it more if it didn't quit to the desktop every time you enter a new area and take 20 seconds to load it. The original is lightning fast.

Eh, went ahead and started Mankind Divided instead. It opens with an optional 12 minute recap of HR, so I'm up to speed.

The post-credits opening (it's one of those games that doesn't show the title until you've already been playing for 90 minutes and it's kinda redundant) is one of the better scenes I've seen lately. It puts you in Jensen's POV as he's stopped twice by soldiers who demand his papers and people talk down to him and his augmented friend. There are bits of dialogue and news broadcasts in the background indicating that augmented folks are regarded as possible terrorists due to the actions of extremists. There are extremists on both sides, but the augmented ones get more coverage. Humans hate transhumans, transhumans are bitter about their lot. There's a flashy advertisement for a billionaire visionary's community for the augmented which turns out to be an impoverished ghetto. The religious Order are in the courtyard outside Jensen's poor bloc preaching about a Machine God and looking for recruits.

The analogy is obvious. Much of the details are picked up as you go about your business, not thrust through exposition, and I'm quite enthralled by it. I'm very interested to see where it goes.

Why did you skip HR? From what I understand, MD is like a glorified expansion pack of the former with better boss fights but an even shorter runtime.

I've played a third of it before and didn't want to re-do it.

So the eject button on my ps4 randomly decided to start working again, but now I have a horrendous auto-eject problem, where the game stops and the disc comes out every 5-10 minutes. And I can't even just push it straight back in, because it feels like something is blocking it, so I have to turn the console off and back on each time just so it accepts the disc. It's fucked!

Will EB games agree to give me another ps4? I mean, it'll work just fine when they test it. These problems only manifest themselves after a time, but they're getting so bad that I can hardly play games.

Did anyone else have these weird problems with older-model ps4s? Im just kind of confused. First the eject button doesn't work, then it suddenly does. The auto eject thing appears with a vengeance, but as soon as I wrote the previous post, I had another go and was able to play The Witcher 3 for 2 hours with no issues. It's just strange. I can't even tell if there's something wrong with the console anymore. Should I try to replace it or not worry about it?

I'd just try ringing your store first and explain that the issue is very intermittent and irregular, if it's a known issue they should have heard of it. If it were me I'd ask for a new console, it sounds extremely annoying for a $350 purchase.

I had a keyboard with a dodgy touch button like that which caused me similar stress, it kept opening endless instances of Windows media player. Refunded the shit out of it.

It is a known issue and it can be fixed quite simply if you are willing to use a screw driver open up the console and tighten a screw. Apparently its quite easy to do, guides exist online.

But if you are covered under warranty from EB take it in.

Mine was out of warranty and I traded my PS4 into EB with the same exact problem and they happily accepted it without testing as they do. It will be someone elses problem in the future when they buy it.

Personally I think that consoles reliability records have been disgusting the past 2 gens. If I still had my Atari 2600 today it will still fire up without a hitch.

Launch model 360 RROD, launch model PS3 YLOD, launch model PS4 the eject disc issue and I have had some occasional issues with the launch XBONE from the power brick not turning on the console.

I look after my shit, these past consoles have had way less time put into them for gaming time and they still fucked up. Sure PC has its issues as well but parts can easily be replaced. Nintendo has been bullet proof must admit.

Maybe when it's cheaper.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is, uh... I had no idea Nintendo had it in them. There is no question they are still the best game developers in the world. Without question the biggest leap in the series since Ocarina of Time and the most a game has captured me since Dark Souls.

I'd describe it as a Skyrim and Xenoblade influenced overworld with a Shadow of the Colossus inspired aesthetic. It has Grand Theft Auto's sense of creative fun and Deus Ex's multi-layered approach to doing missions. It has Portal inspired puzzles and its own in-built Pokemon Snap. It has so much variety and it's just blowing my mind they did away with the laurels of past Zelda design and put everyone in the industry on notice that they're still the best in the biz.

I played it all day yesterday and haven't even found a dungeon yet. I don't even know if there are dungeons.

Pretty sure there are dungeons, but I am for once glad that I have my brother's Wii U laying around. I'll try to get my hands on it at some point. I haven't played a Zelda game since 2010 when I played Wind Waker (which I thought was just OK and not as good as Twilight Princess which I very thoroughly enjoyed when I played through it in the later parts of 2007). This looks like the one to jump back into the series with. I never played Skyward Sword and don't think I can bothered to since I'd have to buy a wii-mote, nunchuck and wii motion plus just to play it. Fuck that.

I looked into the difference between the Wii U and Switch version and it's not even remotely worth getting a switch for it if you have a Wii U, unless you're desperate to play it on the go. Graphically they're identical, just the switch runs in 900p in TV mode compared to the Wii U's 720p (both are pretty equally unimpressive in 2017 so who cares, would have to be 1080p 60fps to make it worth it) and has faster loading times, both are 30fps.
