Quite enjoying it. The atmosphere holds up well - the darkness is oppressive, the sci-fi MIDIs add a sense of mystery. The depiction of the homeless is surprisingly measured, having witnessed the sassy black homeless lady in Human Revolution who eats trash. The gameplay's variety stands out from imitators because it's clear they went all-out in designing scenarios with two styles of play in mind. There's a clear Metal Gear Solid influence in that respect, but it feels more open than MGS without veering into sandbox territory. I'm looking forward to making my way through the series.

I've suffered my first casualty in Until Dawn. I screwed up a QTE, and the bimbo got slaughtered before I could get there to save her. It's quite weird not being able to replay the section to get a better outcome. I fucked up and now she's permanently dead in this playthrough.

I also hold grave fears for Sam, who's probably my favourite character. I ran when I should have hid, and she got a needle to the neck from the psycho. I don't think she's dead yet though. There's still hope.

I like that mistakes have such serious consequences. It makes it very tense. I love this game.

Couldn't be worse than some of the Telltale games.

Bought Gears Of War 4 and it requires a 32GB update? Im guessing its the previous 360 games I am installing, which comes with the game but I already have them installed from the original discs.

Once you finish the game you can travel back to points in previous chapters and replay from there. Unfortunately, once you make a change in a chapter, you have to play the entire rest of the game from there (no skipping dialogue like in 999) but it's good to be able to do it.

My first major fuckup (i.e. one I cared about) happened right near the end and was the result of a misunderstanding of what the characters would do. All my previous fuckups felt deserved :)

It has had numerous updates since launch so it probably all of them combined. They said they will be introducing new content in the near future (including new difficulties for the campaign and horde). I will return to playing it when they do. By the way, do the campaign on insane solo, it is very hard to do in co-op.

I've been playing some amazing time paradox puzzle games recently (Induction on PC and Causality on phone). Both are really fun but a couple of levels are really doing my head in. I really like how they manage time travel in a logical way to allow you to concentrate on solving the puzzles rather than figuring out the mechanic. Induction does feel a little Talos Principleish at times though as you can interact with a previously "recorded" version of yourself to overcome obstacles - slight difference being that, in Induction, you travel back in time to interact with your cube and how it has moved so far.

If anyone's played Causality can they offer any advice regarding this level? It's doing my head in - and it's not even one of the levels with time travel!

Ha, I see what you mean now. I'm not sure I'm totally sold on the twist. It was surprising, but it will take all the tension out of a replay now I know that
Spoiler: click to toggle

I'm up to chapter 8, and have lost Matt after I insisted on helping Emily. So that's 2 deaths so far. I hope I manage to save at least a few of them, but I keep fucking up at critical moments. I really wanted to save the token black jock Matt over his bitch girlfriend :(.

I lost Ashley and Matt. The Matt death I felt like I made all the right moves at the time, I watched the totem prediction to try to avoid it, that was a harsh lost.

The Ashley death was all on me, made a silly move because I figured to do some exploring for all the collectibles.

I only saved Mike, Emily and Sam in the end. I made the same mistake as you with Ashley, lost Chris because Ashley wouldn't open the door for him, missed the clue to keep Josh alive. Even Wolfie died because I apparently didn't barricade the door.

Good game, though I thought it was much more enjoyable as a straight slasher rather than the supernatural monster horror it became after the twist. Will have to replay to save everyone. Shouldn't be hard this time.

Finished Deus Ex. It holds up so well. The first half was good, but it kicks into a new gear after Hong Kong when you're basically doing self-contained levels with little pause in-between the stealth action. What I love is how it offers gameplay variety while still being tightly designed; you feel like you're thinking outside the box when all approaches have been considered. It's just sad that Assassin's Creed and other stealth games are completely outclassed by a 17-year old game that looks this atrocious.

A clever design aspect is how it prods you into thinking about alternative methods by limiting the amount of critical items you'll find so that you'll avoid using them when you can. I abused the shit out of autosaves in this respect too. I'm not wasting 3 lockpicks for ammo I don't need. My weapons of choice were the stealth pistol, sniper rifle, and the ridiculously overpowered dragon head sword. I rarely used augments until the last few hours.

I felt the story started intriguingly with the corrupt government angle, got a bit daffy when the Illuminati got involved, but ended quite well by rounding out its themes. None of the characters are interesting though. It's all very thematically driven. The plot is fun. I hope the sequels improved on the presentation. Some of that voice acting, geez.

I also lost Wolfe as well, forgot to mention that, same thing, befriended him but he got taken out in the chase. Actually felt way worse losing him than any of the human characters but I dont think he counts as a character in the sense of acquiring the trophy

Haha. I dunno man, it was definitely bad voice acting but the game wouldn't have so many memorable lines without it. "My voice acting is augmented" should be the tag-line on the back of the box.

Ahhh, Mistah JC Denton; in da fresh!
A bomb!
What a shame...

I should really play it again, probably with some mods this time just to spice it up.
Fuck_Giver.exe has stopped working!
Does it matter how I write the truth?

I can't remember that line. The worst voice acting came from the Chinese and French NPCs who sounded like they could barely read English.
