Because then it might look like they'd hacked the leaderboard service?

Yeah probs.

The soundtrack is the most inconsistent thing ever. It's all over the place. It has a ton of vocal tracks that are clearly inspired by American rap and rock but they're just awful to listen to. It has brilliant orchestral and synth-driven tracks. It has a comedy guitar riff that plays in every second scene and is weirdly not annoying. The range between its shittest and best music is vast.

Started playing Syberia. Mixed feelings on it so far. On one hand the mystery of the story so far has definitely taken me in, I want to find out more. I also like all the steampunk automaton stuff. On the other hand, the actual game definitely suffers the recurring flaws of the genre. There's a lot of tedium to it with the running back and forth, or the game seemingly making you do things that aren't even puzzles just for the fuck of it (Kate refusing to pick up an oar becuase its "icky and wet" so you have to go and fetch Momo to carry it). Also some of the puzzles so far have had some poorly designed elements or have had important information that was really easy to miss etc. This is definitely going to be one of those games where I have to tolerate the gameplay for the sake of the plot. We shall see if I can do that long enough to finish it.

I think you've played it if I remember correctly, haven't you Harris? If so, is it worth my persistence?

In Xenoblade X you have to take out an insurance policy on your fight robot.

I only played Syberia 2, but it had the same problems you described. I enjoyed the art style and atmosphere, but many of the puzzles were annoyingly obtuse. I absolutely had to consult a walkthrough several times, which really detracted from the experience. I plowed through til the end because I wanted to see how the story concluded, but I can't say it was completely satisfying.

Well I finished Syberia yesterday and am 3 hours into Syberia 2 now. Regarding the plot it seems as though it's more like 1 game split up into two parts since the first game ends on a cliff-hanger of sorts and only a small portion of the established mystery is resolved. I do think the first game serves well as a way of getting you invested into the mystery of Hans and the Syberia island but they clearly designed 2 to be accessible to newcomers as well, though they would definitely be missing some things.

So far though 2 is shaping up to be a objectively better game. The puzzles so far are definitely a bit more intuitive and sensible, though I've still had to check a walkthrough a couple of times due to a couple of the puzzles having some misleading elements or parts that didn't make sense. The visuals are improved across the board being two years newer than the first game, as well as generally more interesting art direction and design in the environments. Much more characters too, and I would say so far they're a bit more colourful and memorable. The context sensitive mouse cursor was also improved, so the game feels like it's better due to a number of small improvements.

I think this game will have to absolutely shit itself to leave me disappointed, though. I've enjoyed the story so far, the gameplay has been quite tolerable really and I've definitely had the sense of being on an adventure while playing it which is really all I can ask for I suppose. That and knowing that part 3 is actually being released next month should help with any disappointment than may or may not occur at the end of this one.

Wow, PS4 sounds like a jet engine with a disc inserted. Even louder than the early period xbox360. I hope that's not a bad omen for its durability...

I started Until Dawn last night. Seems rather excellent so far. It's a bit thin on the actual gameplay, which mostly consists of quick time events and decision making via nudging the right stick, but I love the atmospheric setting, the slasher movie vibe, and the massive impact your decisions have on plot developments. It feels refreshingly novel. The characters are stock standard one-dimensional archetypes, but that seems to suit the b-horror feel the game is going for. I'm impressed so far.

I finished it a few months back, enjoyed it so much I want to do a second playthrough to find all the totems and clues that I missed, mostly to have an ending with all survivors making it.

I ended up losing 2 of the characters which wasnt too bad on a first playthrough.

Game is awesome, one of my favourites and has left a lasting impression on me.

The jet engine sound could be a sign of your console dying but even with the Pro PS4 when I was playing LAst Of Us there were moments of loudness but only when the game was loading parts of the game, I think its just a PS4 thing.

I read up on ps4 reliability, and there seems to be a consensus that it's a sturdy machine with low failure rates, so that's encouraging. It seems that the loudness is quite normal, especially for older models (mine is cuh 1100). It does sound like there's a problem with randomly ejecting discs, but it hasn't happened to me yet. So far so good. I'll be more than happy if it's as durable as my ps3, which is 6 years old and hasn't had a single issue yet.

One thing that confuses me is that I wasn't required to install either Last of Us on ps3 or Until Dawn on 4, but could play them straight out of the box. I was under the impression that everything had to be installed? Have they changed that recently?

So was I. Pretty sure all my disc games required installation. Check your hard drive in the settings that it didn't install it on the sly.
