The only thing I don't like about the end is that the Fireflies are such assholes to Joel that his decision can seem righteous even though it isn't. Remember Ben that Ellie WANTS to sacrifice herself and it's not Joel's call, morally speaking, which is why he lies to her. It's definitely framed as being the wrong thing to do. |

Fireflies weren't being extreme assholes though. They were even willing to let Joel go if he just walks out quietly. They would have killed Ellie, but that was completely understandable considering what was at stake. I though the big part of the ambiguity is that we don't really know if Ellie wanted to sacrifice herself. She seemed to be under the impression that they were just going to take a bit of blood, and Joel massacring everyone, cutting the doctor's jugular (actually, I was proactive so I just shot him in the head when he started threatening me with the scalpel) and killing Marlene just made him sickening. He was a bit of a psychopath all along, but these things made him completely irredeemable. |

I'm referring to how they won't let him see Ellie and walk him out under armed guard. Like, what did he even do to them? He lead Ellie across the whole countryside to get her there, at least let him say goodbye. |

I agree and Joel deceived Ellie by saying that there were others just like her that had the cure. So he would try to comfort her but if anything I think it comforts him more. I believe this will play some part in the sequel. Maybe they actually had a falling out from this, because from the trailer it doesnt actually look like Joel is with her in that room. |

I think david's intention was to rape ellie before he killed her in the restaurant. That's why she breaks down immediately after and says 'he was... he was... going to...' (or something like that). I simply think the game chickens out at that moment and pulls back from even implying the act (attempted pedophile rape would be a hard thing to sell to the masses even for this game). There is no way I would let Joel see Ellie in the hospital. This was bigger than his feelings. If it were me, I would view him as a potential problem and kill him straight away. You could be right about the FF. My issue's just a minor plot detail; I like what the ending at large says about Joel. It's been a while since I saw the scene, so maybe his menacing presence is more obvious than I recall. I really like the scene earlier when David paints him as a murderous psychopath. It's a disquieting moment. |

Do you guys think I would like TLOU? I've watched the first hour on youtube, and while I actually found myself a bit invested in the story and thinking about what might happen after watching it, the gameplay looked pretty unremarkable to me (though to be fair the first hour was near exclusively cover shooting and shallow stealth mechanics, may or may not be the best foot forward as a representation). I just wonder if it's the kind of game that I should just watch someone's play through of on youtube if it's outstanding qualities are not in the gameplay department. |

There are actually a few audio logs and journal entries you can find that say that the Fireflies has found a bunch of people with immunity in the past, and failed every time to discover a cure, with those immune dying in the end. Joel doesn't know this when he makes the decision to kill the Fireflies but it definitely makes the dilemma more complex. |

It's probably one of the best representations of cover shooting/stealth that I've seen in a game. The inclusion of a survival element really helps it here, especially playing on the harder difficulties (I think Survival difficulty is the best experience, Grounded is a little too frustrating at times). It does a really good job of making you feel like you never have enough resources going into a fight, but you can always ended up scraping by by the skin of your teeth if you use everything at your disposal. It's all pretty organic too, there's no big text popping over the screen when you're spotted or go back to stealth mode like MGS, just subtle music clues and listening to what the enemies are saying. The developers were inspired by No Country for Old Men when it came to the gun fights, so they're quite minimal on music and very visceral. The fights against the infected aren't quite as good on replays though. |

I think this is a common misconception. I might be wrong, but the journals talk about experimenting on the infected and never getting anywhere. The doctor specifically says that he's never seen anyone like Ellie in one of the audio journals. |

Just play it. The combat and stealth aren't anything remarkable and are even annoying on some levels (like the endless and repetitive Pittsburgh chapter), but they're perfectly functional, fairly visceral, and get pretty tense at times because of the aforementioned scarcity of resources and the impressive intelligence of the (human) enemies. But the biggest draw here is the atmosphere and character interactions, which, combined with the RPG and survival horror aspects, as well as an unusually mature narrative, make it a special experience overall. |

Just looked it up and it's kind of vague. All it mentions are "past patients", which could either be fully infected people or people who are immune. It does mention that Ellie is different to the others though. |

I don't have the game or a console to play it on, I'm just a bit curious about it since people have raved about it so much. If I get the chance to try it one day I probably will but I'm still fully disinterested in buying a current console so far this gen. |

PC still my first choice but man you miss out on games like TLOU without owning a console. I dont know what your financial situation is but consoles are not exactly that expensive. Its literally the same price as buying a new GPU I suppose. You could try to trade in some old hardware if you need to get extra credit. I'm not the biggest fan of this system and of course you dont get as much if you were to sell privately but was quite happy with EB games offers for trade in. They even do phones and I got $150 for my S4 which had a dead pixel. There is a store in NSW called CEX which also offer better trade in value and literally accept anything electronic. Shit like cameras and lens, PC parts and obviously games, think they even accept PC games. When the Xbox Scorpio is released ill probably repeat what I did for the PS4 pro and trade in the original Xbone and may even do my Vita and 3DS, they are just sitting around gathering dust now. Finished a few more games and Ill certainly package them off as well. Edited by Biceps Ben Six Pack Smooth, Feb 5 2017, 03:44 PM.
