I'm playing wolfenstein the new order. It's good so far. I like the mixture of hardcore drama and b-movie schlock. I'm so shit at aiming that I've had to turn the difficulty down to the second lowest, but that feels just right. I love the setpieces, even though I get sick of the corridors and sometimes I can't tell the enemy apart from the background.

Yeah wolfenstein TNO has a really strong start, I thoroughly enjoyed the first two missions or so. I do think it loses steam as it goes unfortunately, but it remains a competent game throughout. |

Goodfellow if you're going through PS3 games you haven't played you should definitely pick up The Last of Us at some point. It's the closest I've seen a game come to being a blockbuster movie and yet it's not like it does that at the expense of being a game, because it's a really fun game too. Also, the writing is top-tier blockbuster quality. Like a Christopher Nolan movie or something. It's not similar to a Nolan movie but it's "reaching for more", is what I mean. And it pulls it off.

I have the last of us, but I felt like some mindless shooting and wolfenstein is more than delivering right now. I also got gta5, alien isolaton, and God of war 3. I also have resident evil 4, Okami, Resistance 3, Remember Me, Valkyrie Chronicles, Far Cry 3, Vanquish.. I'm well stocked on games for now Edited by Sir Goodfellow, Nov 12 2016, 11:29 PM.

I look forward to your thoughts on Alien Isolation, I think it was great. Very faithful. |

I've tried this game three times now and just can't get into it. I don't feel the tension and the game's progres just feels so slow! I don't know why I can't get into it and it's frustrating as I know I should like it! |

Don't feel too bad, it's just how it is. Besides, it's fun to take a "your game sucks!" attitude with popular games and watch people squirm. For a good comparison, I think Amnesia The Dark Descent is one of the most overrated, ass games out there; owing to it's thoroughly dull, shallow, menial gameplay (who can resist that drawer opening, lever pulling action!) and the rather rudimentary, uninteresting environments of the castle.

Why did you stop liking The New Order? I'm up to the 6th level and it's holding up for me. The shooting is kinda old school, but perfectly functional and fairly satisfying, and some of the weapons are fun to use. I also like the environments, which are essentially linear, but have plenty of branching paths and secret rooms to explore if you're so inclined. The stealth is fairly rudimentary, but the option to sneak N stab is appreciated. And the story is far more engaging than it had any right to be, considering the silly premise of shooting hordes of super-Nazis and massive robot dogs. Furthermore, the set-pieces are nicely varied and some are suitably tense. I liked the bit on the train when you're pretending to be a Nazi and are given a test of racial purity by a suspicious general. The easter egg when you fall asleep on a particular bed in the resistance HQ and find yourself playing the original Wolfenstein was also cool. Edited by Sir Goodfellow, Nov 14 2016, 11:29 AM.

I didn't stop liking it as much as I thought it was strongest at the beginning. It's competent throughout but I didn't really enjoy the later missions anywhere near as much. I can't really remember why specifically, it's been too long since I played it, but I do remember my feeling at the end of it was that it was just a going through the motions game, I think this was primarily after arriving at the resistance HQ, I was quite taken by everything that lead up to that point... I agree that the shooting is pretty satisfying for the most part, the sound effects and death animations were decent from memory. I really didn't like the story, I thought it was an eye-roller for the vast majority of it until the very end which I won't spoil. The romance was the main thing I disliked, I thought it was one of the most forced things I've ever seen. A nurse spends 8 years or whatever it was wiping a braindead meathead's ass and then they fall in "love" (translated: fuck buddies whose romance is never developed beyond a point of sexual instinct and toenail deep infatuation) while escaping the Nazis. I normally don't give a shit about writing in video games, let alone shooters of all things, but this romance was just so bad that it actively irritated and distracted me, especially since I went in thinking the story was going to be good like everyone said. I don't know what right the game thinks it has to expect the player to take it as seriously as it does itself, especially since it's about fighting a cartoon villain version of the Nazis who are basically bloodthirsty, psychopathic, killing machines. Even something like Inglorious Basterds showed them as being much more relate-able and human (the shoot out scene in the bar with the new father, for example). If you're going to go the over the top route like they did, don't mix the tone up so damn much. Just make it a "lol, story" game like the old ones, I say. I did genuinely like the alternate future concept and the cinematic direction of the game (which is what I think everyone is confusing for story), but the actual plot left me dry. Oh yeah, I also didn't like the game from a technical perspective, either. It uses that stupid mega texture crap which just sucks in every way, more-so on PC where the texture pop in while turning around is pretty bad. I can be an autist about that kind of thing, so that brought it down another notch for me. Edited by Doomguy, Nov 14 2016, 02:00 PM.

They didn't market Paper Mario Color Splash well. It's basically Thousand Year Door but is RPG-lite. It's just as funny and charming. Good game. That said, the combat system is crap. Want to jump on an enemy? Select a jump card (attacks are finite and require cards to use), place it in the card slot, confirm, paint the card for extra damage (you will do this every time), and finally "flick" the card from the gamepad to the TV. Mario jumps! Repeat for every attack ever. Edited by Moo, Nov 19 2016, 02:49 PM.

I've been playing Garden Warfare 2 for the last week and a bit. Comparing it with the previous version, the things I like include: * it looks a lot nicer. * It supports bots to let you test things out in private, or play depopulated game modes. * While the first game only let you play zombies in the competitive multi-player, this one has the same types of content for both teams. * In the Gardens vs. Graveyards mode, it no longer disables teleporters as your team progresses forward to the next objective. * Some of the new classes are fun such as the Z-Mech Imp, which clearly draws inspiration from Mass Effect and Titanfall. There are a few disappointments though: * They've removed most of the asymmetry from the game: most abilities or game mechanics that were unique to one team in the first game are now available to both sides. It ends up making each side feel a bit less unique. * It seems a lot more grindy than the first, with the need to level up individual variants in a class rather than the class as a whole. * If you remain idle in the single player mode for too long, it automatically quits and you'll need to log back in again. I guess it isn't quite as single player as I thought. |

Not sure if I should be enjoying the fact that Pokemon Moon has been quite challenging, or ashamed at the fact that I'm finding a game that's explicitly designed to accommodate 8 year olds to be somewhat hard.

Earlier this year I played Pokemon Emerald for a few hours (I'd only played Red before) and got bored by how repetitive it was. It just felt like Pokemon Red in a more open world. I wonder if I would enjoy the later iterations. If I end up getting a Nintendo Switch I might grab SunMoon. Do they have records on which of the two Pokemon games in each iteration sold better? Nevermind, I found a random forum post with zero sources that explains everything: Blue beat Red Silver beat Gold Ruby beat Sapphire Diamond beat Pearl Black beat White X beat Y |
