Gonna buy XCOM2 on PS4. Are "Shen's Last Gift" and "Alien Hunters" worth the extra $30?
The DLC themselves are good. But at the price of that, not at all.

Each DLC is one (although excellent) mission, with some unlockables that you get in the main game. One comes with a new class; the other some equipment and alien bosses will start to appear in the campaign.

I might pass then. I was worried they might be like Enemy Within which transforms the game pretty drastically.

Briefly checked out Resident Evil HD. They shouldn't have abandoned the shitty controls that add that extra jolt of panic! You can switch to them, but new players aren't gonna do that. It's so weird being able to instantly run in any direction. Also the controls are still bad because R1 is shoot while R2 is the map screen?

Sectoids got buffed up in XCOM 2! They're scary. I have to go after them the second they appear. I panicked one time and rushed two soldiers over to a sectoid standing on a truck. I killed it. The truck blew up though cause it was on fire and both soldiers died. I've done three missions and lost soldiers in all of them. I only have three combat-ready soldiers and can't afford new ones. My most exhilarating moment so far was when my best soldier charged into an ambush and I managed to save her with 1 health left. She's wounded for a month. God XCOM is so good I'll probably play it for 8 hours right now!

It's just brutal right out of the gate. There's no Ironman mode but I'm playing it without reloads because that sucks the tension out of the room. I just had a 32 turn mission that ended when the 19th and 20th (and last) enemies wiped out my two remaining soldiers. XCOM is going to die pretty soon I think :(

Very fun.

This is probably the most exhilarating series ever. It takes the experiential narrative thrills of Civilization and combines it with high stakes cutthroat action. You know how Call of Duty comrades are expendable, meaningless chunks of cardboard? XCOM is the extreme opposite. You fall in love with your soldiers. Just now I was relieved as heck when my best soldier, Wild Shibboleth, escaped death with 1 health. I haven't actually finished that mission: I'm on the toilet. She might still die, will let you know. But yeah, it's the most emotionally engaging game ever. Recommended 2000.

She died. Oh my lord the whole squad died. Except for one. It was chaos. She was leading the evacuation after we secured some goods when a three alien ambush appeared and killed her. My two snipers both panicked. The ranger holding the goods was then killed. The snipers shook off their fear and responded by killing two aliens but the third alien killed a sniper in response. The final sniper, Criminal Love, took out the last alien, picked up the body of Our Hero, Wild Shibboleth, as well as the goods, and reached the evacuation point. It was a harrowing nightmare...

Still playing black flag. Took me a while to get into it, but now I'm downright dedicated. I'm at about 45 hours and 70% through it overall. Up to sequence 11. Been spending a lot of time grinding for ship upgrades and getting the useless collectibles just because. There are a lot of niggling issues and flaws that wear on you over time (yet another tailing mission? Are you serious, Ubisoft?), but it's a fantastic world, and the one thing the game can't be accused of is not being generous. It's long even without the copious side stuff or the ship grinding. There's so much to do that it's almost overwhelming. The story is nothing special, though I like how it makes sure to include all the major historical events from the golden age of piracy. It was a kick reading up on the period (on wikipedia) and realising that all the major happenings from the time were shoehorned into the game, so it's kinda educational as well!,

Honestly, I love the series. I've only played 1, 2, and 4, but they've all been greatly enjoyable.

45 hours is looooong. I'm sure I didn't spend that much time on it, and I did most stuff. Good game though so whatever. I like reading the historical tidbits Assassin's Creed gives on buildings and people. It's impressive how they build these reconstructions of historical places in the space of a year.

Playing 1, 2 and 4 is good because 3 is the dud. Though Brotherhood and Revelations are full games in themselves and worth playing. I need to get around to playing Rogue, Unity and Syndicate.

XCOM update: 29 soldiers dead, 5 soldiers alive. I'm so fucked. The aliens are one point away from completing the Avatar Project (which I assume is game over upon completion). I honestly just want them to conquer me so I can start fresh because my XCOM is a disgusting shambles.

I only lost 4 soldiers on commander difficulty.

The struggle is real? lol

But yes, once the the avatar project fills up, a final warning counter begins and a mission pops up.

On your first attempt? I'm really bad at this game then.

Yeah on 1st attempt. Well, I played the Long War mod for XCOM:EU/EW which has similar mechanics that were adopted in XCOM 2.

I've failed a few missions, which I'd take. Because I always follow a rule where I value the soldiers more than the mission.

That's pretty cool that an unofficial mod influenced the main game.

I'd be doing better if I just made sure not to make the last soldier on the turn move further ahead and reveal the squad to more enemies.

The battle preparation music amps me the fuck up.
