Infamous Quests, a small indie team, have made a tribute game (more of a demo) based on Netflix's smash hit, Stranger Things. If you enjoyed the show, you may want to check it out. It's a free small 15MB download on Windows, Mac and Linux. https://infamousquests.itch.io/stranger-things ![]() ![]()

I decided to check out some of the Sonic hacks on the Sonic Retro site. If you're a fan of the original classics, these may be of interest to you. Here's a few select games: ![]() The S Factor: Sonia and Silver is a hack that allows players to choose between two new characters, Sonia and Silver. ![]() Sonic 2 Long Version is a more complete version of Sonic 2, which includes four levels originally scrapped during Sonic 2's development. ![]() Sonic 2 Retro Remix adds an adventure spin to Sonic 2, with missions involving Chaos Emeralds scavenger hunts, boss battles, speed runs and score attacks. ![]() Sonic 2 XL is a really clever hack where you need to avoid rings. Rings are replaced with onion rings, and Sonic becomes fatter after eating them! ![]() Sonic 3 Complete adds a plethora of tweaks, improvements, bug fixes and options for Sonic 3 and Knuckles, with (optional) music based on the original PC version. ![]() Sonic Classic Heroes is my favourite. Not only does it offers the entire campaigns of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2, but it allows three characters to play at once, including Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.

I've started playing Far Cry 4. While it does feel quite similar to Far Cry 3, it's a while since I played that game, so I'm enjoying it. The elephants are fun. I've played a few missions where it gives me a choice over whose task to complete. In both cases, they've been followed by another mission for the other guy who will scold you for making the wrong choice. I wonder if that'll continue all the way through? |

Really? I don't ever remember that happening to me. The aliens always seemed stationary until I walked into their field of view - never the other way around. |

If you set an Overwatch line to cover an area and you trigger an encounter 'pod', you catch out their movements. This is a core mechanic and approach of XCOM 2, because of how concealment works as you can scout out and set up proper ambushes over just blindly and slowly moving to set up everyone on overwatch in XCOM:EU. But I always thought that free move criticism to be a little nonsense. Because I think it's a good balancing mechanic that creates engaging encounters, as you're almost always set up and where late triggers always seemed like an mistake on the players part (Still the case in XCOM 2). I think there are exceptions - some aliens do remain stationary until you spot them - but most of the time the aliens definitely move around and can enter your P.O.V before you enter theirs. It's generally advantageous when they do. Edited by Moo, Aug 29 2016, 06:39 PM.

Yeah, there's clear patrol routes in XCOM 2. And even if the patrol moves towards your direction and come in range of your forward scouting unit, the mob wont trigger provided that you're in cover (they'll trigger if you move that unit on your turn, forcing you to give up your concealment). |

I love it when you're concealed. It's when you're not that I find it annoying. There's no way to know a patrol route short of having played the level before - so I always end up caught. It's not a problem as it just makes me a more cautious player (except on the timed levels obviously). |

Played a point and click adventure game recently... Bear With Me. Not bad. Pity it's episodic and episode 1 was only 50 minutes or so total game time. I really liked the aesthetic (childs world of toys but a noir detective story) but felt they were trying a bit too hard with the jokes and dialogue... that said, isn't that kind of the thing to do with P&C adventures now?![]() |

Nothing to do with what I am playing but wanted to announce my pleasure of buying The Evil Within with season pass, Batman Arkham Knight with season pass and Kings Quest complete all chapters for a total of $40 through Kinguin for Steam. The last Steam sale was so pathetic and these games have been on my wishlist for some time now. Ive purchased on sites like Kinguin and G2A in the past but this time I legitimately felt like I was buying stolen keys, some of the keys came from a photo on the cd case. Im sure its fine, all games installed without a hitch butI did get that feeling that it was dodgy. |

It's quite possible you did buy some stolen keys. There's a fair bit of evidence that these key resale markets are being used to launder money. What basically happens is: 1. Criminal buys or otherwise acquires stolen credit card numbers and uses them to buy game keys from a retailer. 2. Criminal sells keys on resale market. 3. Credit card owner or bank notices the fraudulent purchase and reverses the charge. Now the criminal has what looks like legitimately acquired cash, and the person the company they bought the key from needs to absorb the loss. This apparently works because it apparently isn't possible to cancel individual Steam keys: only batches of keys. So even if the retailer tracked which keys were sold as part of which credit card transactions, they're in a position where they can't cancel the key without also cancelling a bunch of legitimate keys. This problem would pretty much go away if Valve let authorised retailers cancel individual keys: if keys from a particular seller keep on getting cancelled, then they're quickly going to get banned from the market. |

Is MGS V worth playing? I know it got all that hyperbolic praise from the gaming press, but I dunno, it sounds kinda light on story and repetitive. Sounds a bit boring. Still, the PS3 version is $15... Also cheap are The Last of Us, Metro: Last Light, Arkham Asylum, Dark Souls 2, Dishonored, Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, Ass Creed: Black Flag, the first X-Com, and Uncharted 3. Oh, also Fallout: New Vegas! Which 2 or 3 from that bunch would you suggest I get? Edited by Sir Goodfellow, Sep 12 2016, 01:03 AM.

Last of Us and MGS5. MGS5 is the worst of the series storywise but the best gameplaywise. And the story has its moments despite the overall badness. |

There's more than 3 good games on that list. What sort do you enjoy playing? Out of the ones you've listed that I've played: Uncharted 3 - a solid entry in the series. If you enjoy the story of the series it is worth checking out, but don't expect the kind of leap you saw between Uncharted 2 and 3 Batman: Arkham Asylum - I think this is still my favourite from the series. It isn't an open world game like the later entries in the series, so it tells a tighter story and feels like it has less filler. When it was released, the combat felt new and unique, but that might be lost these days given how many games have borrowed its style. Assassins Creed: Black Flag - one of the best AC games out so far. It is also feels quite different due to spending so much time sailing rather than prowling roof tops. Fallout: New Vegas - a great game, but the PS3 version is probably the worst version you'll find. I played it through to the end, but it suffers from the same problems as other Bethesda RPGs: they struggle to fit in the system's 256 MB of main memory. You'll notice framerate dips and longer load times as your save file size grows. If you save frequently to multiple save files, and restart the game every so often, it is playable. But if you've got another convenient platform to play on, it might be better off playing it there. |

Actually, I have played Arkham Asylum. I meant City. They also have Knight. I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy all of those, though I'll probably settle for the two moo said + Black Flag. I'm in the mood for some pirating, and it's been years since I've played AC. I got a bit sick of the series back in the day, but I think I'd enjoy it again now. I played a bit of Okami with my nephew today. Seems like a nice game. |
