Oh yeah, that's common and goes for lots of things for me, especially music.
Same, but this applies for me with everything in life

Prior to reaching the Eryth Sea I was growing a little tired of Xenoblade. The combat was too repetitive and lacked excitement while the story and characters were by-the-JRPG-numbers, with the cartoonishly evil Metal Face being particularly embarrassing. But around that point it changes up on both fronts, with tougher enemies requiring new strategies and the story being injected with some much needed intrigue. I wouldn't say the story is good now, but it's told well enough that I want answers to a few mysterious loose threads. The Eryth Sea is gorgeous too. I'm currently up to Valak Mountain.

What stinks is that there's been three times where I've reached a boss I'm not levelled enough for and it forces me to grind via the fairly boring sidequests. I at least appreciate how quickly you can fast travel and that you don't need to return to the quest giver to receive your reward.

I'm up to Makna Forest in Xenoblade Chronicles and, with five characters in the party, it seems any combination of fighters that doesn't include Shulk and Sharla is useless because you need the former's Monado arts and the latter's healing abilities. A Dunban, Reyn and Melia combo would get smoked by serious enemies, right? I hope the characters learn more varied arts soon so I can try some different combinations.
Sharla + Reyn and whoever can get most things done. If abit slowly. They just fall off later once Dunban can just flatout mitigate/avoid damage rather than eat it up like Reyn does. Later on it gets to a point where Sharla's burst heals can no longer sustain Reyn just taking constant blows from high damage dealers.

I ended up with Dunban a character you get later and Melia control (Probably the most fun and flexible character to use and her AI sucks). I often use Riki if the situation requires someone with abit more utility.

I havent used Shulk since the half way mark.

Isn't it hard without Shulk's foresight defense? It's got me out of a lot of pickles. It does suck that he can't attack Homs enemies. I've been using Dunban since Makna Forest and alternating aggro between him and Shulk. Riki seems pretty useful, but I haven't really tried out Melia yet. I've never controlled anyone but Shulk though, except that compulsory section with Melia.

Wait are you still playing it? You talked in present tense at the end so I dunno.

lol there's a huge steep incline in the outside portion of Mechonis Field that you fly up at ridiculous speed if you start jumping. I also like how jumping off an escalator or conveyor belt will leap you forward about thirty metres.

One cool moment was climbing up a finger of the Fallen Arm and looking down at the giant hand I'd been traversing.

Fuck this game's fights are so fun and intense sometimes. I just might have had my best one against Lorithia. I've controlled Shulk through the entire game but Loritihia's near-immunity to physical attacks rendered him useless. I tinkered with the party for a while and ended up ditching Fioria and Shulk (keeping Sharla) for Riki and Melia, controlling Riki, using accumulating damage attacks like Poison and Blaze while Sharla had only healing arts. Three quarters through the fight it was looking like I'd win when Lorithia cast Confuse on Riki and he walked directly into the poisonous ether water and started circling around in it. Lorithia chases after him and the idiot Sharla and Melia AI follow her into the water. When I regain control we are all under 900 health. I stood there desperately hoping Sharla would use her party heal art when the option "WARN SHARLA" appeared dead centre. Pure luck, I hadn't even realized an attack was imminent. I do it and heal the party, and move the heck away from the water and finish the fight. Also the following cutscene was ironically focused on Riki and Melia, who've rarely spoken since midway through the game, so that was neat.

The story gets better. It's not bad for a corny JRPG, and I don't think it's as cheesy as I imagined. Reyn can die though he's annoying.

I've also been playing New Super Mario Bros U with my brother and it's a reminder of why Nintendo Man is everything wrong with this world. It's such a blast. Donkey Kong and Rayman have done some stylish things with platforming lately but Nintendo (as a developer) is still the best in the genre.

It's got 15 hidden/bonus levels, which is a crazily high amount these days.

Do yourself a favour unless you have already and get Yoshis Wooly World, Super Mario Bros 3d world and Captain Toad's Adventures.

So I completed the 15 championships in Forza Horizon 2 and won the big race around the entire map, but I am confused if I have actually completed the game?

I get that there are more championships to complete in different classes and all the other side bonuses like rivals, barn finds, bucket lists etc but have I essentially completed the main campaign?

Oh and fuck this 314/315 roads discovered, I have looked everywhere on the map and cannot find the last road.

I went back to Bayonetta 2 after some time off because I wanted to play it with the Wii U pro controller. I have mixed feelings about this game compared to the first game.

Im up to about chapter 10 now and so far the level designs have been subpar compared to the first, also a fair bit of recycling of the same maps. The story itself seems to be less interesting as well, I mean the first game made absolutely no sense and I was ok with that but the second game seems to lack the spark the first had.

The improvements however is easily the combat system, the controls feel way more responsive. First game it felt like button mashing and hoping for the best, second gives a lot more control over combos.

I'll get YWW eventually, it looks good. I played 3D World with my brother last year, which was slightly better than Mario Bros Wii U. What I love about the multiplayer in both is that you get advantages, like being able to bounce off each other and return to life if one player remains alive, that are levelled out by the chaos of having two people. I can't imagine how hard the games would get with four players.

In Captain Toads Adventures the bonus levels are actually some stages from Super Mario 3d world, pretty cool playing them again but in Captain Toad style.

Yoshi has 2 player co op but fuck its so much more difficult, unless you play it smartly with a skilled other player. Its amusing sucking up the other Yoshi with his tongue and spitting the player out.

I enjoyed the Toad Tracker levels in 3D World - I didn't know they were representative of the game. The game's actually pretty cheap these days (for a Wii U game) so I'll get that too eventually.

I'm curious about where Mario goes from here. The multiplayer aspect has been a great addition to the series but I imagine these games aren't as good as the Galaxy games in single player. Galaxy 1 & 2 for me are the peak of the platforming genre.

The full game takes those bonus levels in super mario 3d world to a whole new level. You even get to fight bosses, it can be completed pretty quickly but their is plenty of value in replaying levels to get rewards to unlock extra content.

I paid something like $30 for it and got my value from it.

I certainly enjoyed galaxy world games but actually really enjoyed sunshine on gc as well. I guess the problem with the wii u 3d world game was it didn't really have a theme attached to the game.

Pokemon Go got released today. The UI feels a bit more polished than the builds used in the beta (which ended about a week ago). It looks like there has been a fair number of balance changes too.

It's a bit of a shame to have all the progress from the beta wiped, but that was to be expected. It'll also be interesting to see how it plays differently now that items in the shop cost money: during the beta they were handing out $30 worth of coins every day.
