A warning to anyone playing Blood & Wine in order to avoid an annoying bug (This isn't really spoiling anything substantial):

Fire Emblem: Fates - Fredrick Conquest. I'm playing on Hard/Classic
I'm a filthy casual and went with Birthright. However, I may check out Conquest at another time.
You have to.

Chapter 10 is a must play when it comes to great levels in a Strategy game. If you ever played XCOM: EU, it's as fun as that Chryssalid Whale Site Recon Mission.

Now that I've played a bit, I'm pretty eager to see the other side of the story. I'll take up that discount offer and buy the other half once I've finished Birthright.

The story really sucks.

It's more in the mission/map design that makes it shine. It's more objective based giving you stuff to defend this line, escape all units, hold point for 11 turns. find the hidden boss amongst NPCs.

There's also alot of different map mechanics that put a spin to things or add some gimmick. Like there was a level where a 4 tile column of wind randomly appears across the map that consists of narrow bridges. The wind blows after each turn that moves units 5 tiles up or down depending on the direction if you end up sitting in the area. It can be controlled too, so you can yank an enemy from a distance or one of your units can be pulled and be put in alot of danger.

Though I heard Revelations has some of that, too and that's supposedly easier and actually completes the story stuff on both paths. But I didnt get the the SE with the Revelations content in it.

I started playing The Talos Principle over the weekend. I've currently finished all the sigils up to the B03 area, but only managed two of the stars (I guess I'll need something extra I'll learn later on for them?). The puzzles have started getting a bit tricky, and I guess that will continue.

The notes and conversations you have on the terminals also complement the puzzle game play well. I'm interested to see where the story goes.

You can get the stars; most just have very obscure solutions. I could never have solved a heap of them. One of them is next to impossible without a walkthrough.

Let me rephrase that: perhaps they require me to know things I'll learn while solving future sigil puzzles. For example, there are a few stars that seem to need a red lazer to open when the room only offers a blue source. I'm sure I'll eventually work out the trick, so am not looking for hints.

Alot of the stars dont exactly feel all that satisfying. Some have a meta solution, is a pixel hunt, or have solutions that feel like exploits. About every one of them arent all that admiring in their design compared to the regular puzzles

I managed to play a few hours of Technobabylon over the weekend. If you haven't heard of it, it's a cyberpunk point-and-click adventure game from Wadjet Eye games. There's tons to like about it, such as great voice work, interesting characters, engrossing story and an atmospheric score. Unfortunately, I've found some puzzles to be a tad on the frustrating side. I'm not a fan of walkthroughs for my point-and-click adventures, but I've resorted to using one a few times here. Two times, the puzzles were lost in the pixelated artwork, while another would have required a brute-force trial-and-error approach. That said, it's an exciting game and I can't wait to see what happens.

I think I managed to get one of the "pixel hunt" type star puzzles last night. It was one behind a red door switch where the room only contained a blue light source, so solving it required placing a red connector sufficiently high up in a room across the map so I could just make it out if I was standing in the right spot. I only worked it out because that other puzzle room gave me an extra cube after I'd completed it.

Anyway, I've completed all the main sigils from A01 to B07 now and moved onto the C room puzzles.

So I just gave the DOOM demo a couple of playthroughs (Really cool that there is one at all, very rare for a AAA game these days, even though it's too short imo). I liked what it showed overall, with a few little nitpicks aside (such as the pistol charging attack, which just feels very undoom to me, and only being able to hold 20 rounds for the shotgun which is clearly designed to keep you moving around a lot on the hunt for ammo). Also to my pleasant surprise I'm actually able to run it at a pretty stable 60+ at satisfactory graphics settings. I was mainly worried about only having a 2gb card, so I can only handle textures at Medium which actually doesn't even look all that bad. It's a great looking game nonetheless that is definitely well optimized. This looks like it's probably the first truly downright good game id have released since, like, Quake.

So I updated my drivers because I realised they were pre-doom, now I can run the game with high textures, decals and shadows. Really impressed with the technical side of the game, my rig is a fairly modest mid range setup, nothing high end about it at all. i5 4690, 8GB 1600 and 960 2gb; and the graphical fidelity to performance ratio I'm getting is very admirable indeed. The id wizardry that made a 2d game like doom appear 3D is back!

edit- Oh also, another REALLY impressive technical aspect; I'm running the game without any form of v-sync to maximise mouse precision for the dank 360 trickshots. Normally this means putting up with noticeable screen tearing but there's barely any at all, by some miracle.
