I've watched full playthroughs of Heavy Rain and Beyond Two Souls and can sympathize.

One of my old school hang-ups is that I can't pay $99 for a 6-hour game. I don't have the money to buy everything and I need longevity if I'm paying big money. So there's nothing wrong with The Order being 6 hours long in my mind but the pricetag. I'm not saying they should've released it cheaper though. There's no real reason why it shouldn't have had the same price as Fallout 4 or any other big budget game. But that price for those hours will always be a pass in my mind, until it's cheaper.
Right. Which brings up the question of value for money. It's a hard thing to say.

I mean, a game like Super Meat Boy is hours upon hours of entertainment for a small price. And a game like The Order: 1886 was about $90 at launch. At about six hours long, you're looking at $15 an hour of entertainment. Seeing something like Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (which is about 2h40m long) gives better 'bang for buck'.

Game pricing is always a contentious subject. If it weren't so highly priced, I'm sure that people would have rated it higher and give it a better grade than what it got simply because it was a lesser valued game. I know people complained about the cost of The Witness, but from what I understand, that game delivered on its price tag by providing excellent gameplay.

I know that Jingles didn't particularly like Far Cry 3, but perhaps this review for the sequel will change his mind:

Anybody playing Plants VS Zombies Garden Warfare 2? I never played the original so can't comment on the quality of this one, but I hear it's getting a lot of love.

It should have been DLC and not a full release from what I played of the Beta

Screencheat is out today... and costs $19.95 on XBone and $22.95 on PS4. Why the price variance?

I'd love to play it. Enjoyed the first one and, now my son is into it, I can do parenting and play games at the same time!

I'll be buying on PC this time. Fuck them for their stupid online only restrictions that require Xbox Live or PS+

Well, if you want to play the Uncharted 4 multiplayer Beta this weekend, you won't need PSPlus to access it. So...

Late to the party.

@Jingles: People complained about the price of the Witness because people have some weird standard of expectations on what an Indie/Puzzle game should cost, which is stupid.

I just dont see game length and pricing to be all that big of an issue. Game value and cost depreciates over time, so the criticism just seems odd to me. It's an external factor of criticism that I dont feel is relevant to the merits of a game. I dont really have an interest in the Order 1886, but I loved the well-paced and as fun as Vanquish that sat at 6-7 hours over something like Alan Wake that padded out a game that was 5 hours longer than it should have been. Brothers is 3 hours long, but provides an experience that feels large, Trine is 5 times that length and ends up being only half as compelling. You can put a number on game length, the man hours invested into 'content' and the production values within a game, but smart design is invaluable.

Sounds like the complaints I'm hearing about Firewatch. Lots of "They shouldn't charge $30 for a 6 hour walking novel"! Then again I'm hearing a few people complain that it isn't fleshed out enough either.. but that's a completely different complaint

I'm mostly hearing the complaints about Firewatch's unsatisfying ending. Which some jackass spoiled on the Steam community page.

Steam should really hide the body test of the original post.

I shall avoid reading it then. I played it for a few hours last night and I'm really enjoying it.

Pacing is a bit strange with the timeline jumping all around but the graphics are great and the dialogue and exploration of concepts makes for an interesting experience. Can definitely see how it's not everyone's sort of game - reminds me of Soma in a way, mostly walking around and listening to dialogue rather than solving puzzles and killing shit.

The voice acting is amazing which helps.

Only thing I've found jarring so far is that the game jumped from day 33 to 76 (or something) and Henry was talking to Delilah about a young boy (Daryl?). I had to make dialogue choices for the conversation but, without context of an earlier discussion, it felt disjointed. I don't mind learning about new information via a conversation covering topics the characters know about and I don't - but I didn't like it when I had to interact and make choices based on that conversation.

Only reason I can guess for this is

Spoiler: click to toggle

but I'm probably wrong

Edit: I kinda hope my prediction is correct - otherwise the game is just playing the wrong dialogue now. Couple of decisions I made earlier are playing out now as if I made a different choice.
