I loved the Swapper, Talos Principle, and Portal/Portal 2! I was recently replaying The Room games on mobile. What I loved about The Room was that it had a clever hint system that worked well with a game that told you almost nothing about how to play. You have a certain freedom of movement so it was occasionally difficult to ascertain whether the solution to puzzle X was in the area of puzzle X or somewhere else in the room. The first hint usually just helped you ascertain where to look without really giving anything away. E.g. "I wonder what those sliding mirrors are used for?" Not the best example but it's the only screenshot I took using a clue... ![]() |

No spoilers: one of my fave moments in The Witness was when I had an epiphany about a puzzle on the other side of the island I'd abandoned out of frustration. I went back there and solved it immediately, but was completely stumped by the next one, which wasn't corresponding to the rule I'd teased out. I got miffed, and when I get miffed I like to run away from the puzzle to chill out for thirty seconds. As I walked back I saw it suddenly in a way I'd not seen it previously and finally understood what the catch was. It turned out that my original epiphany was wrong; it was a rule I'd made up that solved the first puzzle by pure luck. It wouldn't have worked on any other puzzle in the area. Weird.

This The Witness thing sounds intriguing, though I can't really wrap my head around the types of puzzles it features. I skimmed the Eurogamer review, which didn't really make it all that clear. From what I was able to gather, you have to draw unbroken lines from point to point? Like some glorified hacking mini games? That doesn't sound too fascinating... Can someone spoil one of the early game puzzles, so that I can at least get some idea of the kind of game it is? |

The most rewarding thing is that the game never tells you anything past the basic controls. Every new concept that comes up in a puzzle you have to figure out yourself. |

It's been awhile since I played a Tales game, so I decided to pick up Tales of Hearts R while it was on sale for the PS Vita. So far, it's proving to be an enjoyable JRPG. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Grabbed a copy of This War of Mine : The Little Ones. So far it's proving to be almost exactly the same as it's predecessor. No children anywhere! They must just be new survivors you can randomly receive. Playing it on console this time and the controls are taking a bit to get used to. Rather than using a mouse to queue actions for your people you actually need to move them with the controller to each new location and start them on a task. The micro managing felt strange at first but I've become used to it. Means I have something to occupy me while waiting for small orange circle timers to fill ![]() Still as depressing a game as ever. One of my guys was desperately in need of food so I stole the bare minimum from an elderly couple. I didn't think a small amount of food would matter (I left them their medicine after all) however they died. When I returned home from scavenging the next night Pavle had hung himself. Fucking brutal! |

Got stuck into Lemmings Touch whilst waiting at the doctors today. Great fun! As JamesH mentioned elsewhere it's the same game but they've used touch controls to make it unique. Given it a bunch of new bits and levels so it feels like an enhanced version of the original rather than a port or remake. Animations look a bit crap though - esp when you consider the fluidity and detail of the original (in all their 8-12 pixels of glory) |

One thing I'm finding annoying is that you can't see what skills you have prior to starting a level. In the original game you knew just how many you had of each type so you could pan the level and check before starting. Now you have to start it, select a lemming, then pause to view the level and p[lan your strategy. A minor thing but irksome regardless |

Started on Klaus last night. Now... this is a game that's right up my alley. It seems to tie in the same sort of 'narrative' function that Thomas Was Alone had, except much much better. Visually it looks great as well. After playing through the disappointing Unravel, I'm really excited to get back into this. |

Trying Alien Isolation again. I really want to like this game as I lvoe the movies but something just feels bland about it. Am I the only one? I feel like I'm missing something essential. |

Taste? How far did you get last time? It definitely picks up the further it gets along as it's a fairly progressive drip feed with how it introduces you to new items and mechanics. I'd say around the 4 or 5 hour mark is where things really pick up. |
