It's supposedly quite long. Has around 600 puzzles and a test speedrun took around 6 hours.

I just have other stuff to play, so it can wait.

That's good to see. Glad that puzzle fans will have some substance and stuff to do.

Speaking of Puzzley games I just grabbed myself The Room II. Hope it's longer than the first game!

Picked up my first Pokemon game in ages today - $30 at Target for Pokemon X. They also had Pokemon Y too for the same price but I went with X just because.

Do they even make full budget boxed games that aren't sure-fire franchise hits anymore? I used to like discovering imperfect but interesting gems like Spec Ops: The Line, or Call of Cthulhu, or Alpha Protocol, or even Dreamfall and Remember Me, but pleasant surprises like that seem to have all but disappeared this gen. Now it's all either these quirky little indie games, episodic hits that get parceled out in little chunks (which annoys me), franchise big-hitters,or MP extravaganzas. Or at least that's how it seems to me. I haven't heard of anything that genuinely interests me in ages, though I haven't been following the latest trends in gaming for quite a long while now, so maybe I am missing something.

PS. Oh, I do wanna play After Dawn though! That one sounds pretty cool.

You probably mean Until Dawn.

Dying Light is the only game of that kind I can think of. I haven't played it but it looks cool. The Witcher 3 was a big hit but don't let the 3 fool you because it's much better and different than 1 & 2 and was made by some Polish company.

Yeah, until dawn. That's it. I'll definitely check out Witcher 3 if I ever decide to splurge on a ps4. So far, there are only relatively few games I'm truly interested in, so I can't really justify the expense right now.

On a different note, has anyone here played the original xbox/pc game Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth? I've been thinking about it recently for some reason (probably cos illmatic mentioned Lovecraft on the last page). I'd even gladly replay it if I had the means. Apart from the first silent hill, it's probably the only genuinely terrifying game I've ever played.

That Call of Cthulhu game is on Steam and is old as shit. Do you have an old laptop or something?

I think you'll find that any of those sort of hidden gems aren't as much of a thing anymore just because they are bound to get some extra exposure in the current way that Steam works and with youtube and twitch streaming etc. that stuff has to float to the surface in some way.

Also, there was a bunch of mainstream coverage of Remember Me, it just wasn't well received and quickly faded out after release. Even Until Dawn doesn't strike me as that sort of game just because I've heard all about it.

Games like Downwell, Dropsy, Hacknet and Galak-Z are all well received games that I feel haven't been talked about all that much, but they're also indies so they don't quite fit what you're looking for. Again, I don't know if that middle point is what it used to be.

Pre-ordered a second game digitally last night. Don't know why, but... I did. First Unravel, now Shadow of the Beast. Uh-oh.

Almost picked up Life is Strange - the boxed edition - yesterday from Target for $35. Probably should have but I doubt I'd get around to it for a while.

I didn't mean that they have to be obscure necessarily. They just need to be full featured and offer something slightly different from the industry norm. I think Remember Me fits as a bit of an aberration, since it's an honest to god mid budget game with no real potential as a big franchise starter. The kind of game that doesn't really fit into the current industry model. I thought it was pretty cool. Had a nifty memory-rewind mechanic and a decent story.

If you've been out of the loop, you probably didn't hear that Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro were directing the new Silent Hill. They released a truly frightening playable teaser where you infinitely loop through a hallway as little things change each time. Unfortunately it got cancelled and the teaser doesn't exist anymore. It would've been great.
