MP1 also has some end-game backtracking for artifacts, but the hunt for them starts early and you're likely halfway through by the time you have to seek them out. It's hardly like the shit Wind Waker pulls, but there is a bit of time-wasting backtracking. The game could've used a few shortcuts between regions. It's dumb that you can't reach Phendrana Drifts except through Magmoor Caverns.

Started on The Deadly Tower of Monsters last night and am snapshot absolutely loving it. A lot of fun.

Dankest Dungeon

It's great. The best way I can describe it is that it's this Lovecraftian XCOM dungeon crawler. The RPG mechanics are simple yet elegant. It builds tension so well and the mechanics feel so balanced as you always have to make careful decisions in either managing your hamlet/base, your heroes and combat in general.

The core gameplay loop is really fun. Though there's some issues that I have with the game's structure in that it seems a little quantitive in its progression that gives of a feeling that much of its content is filler.

It works unbelievably well on my tablet. It works great for short bursts and longer gameplay sessions.

I've been playing SteamWorld Heist, a downloadable 3DS game that sneaked in during the dying moments of 2015. It's a very polished, well-balanced, turn-based strategy game with a hint of RPG elements. While the story has been stumbling and some missions feel repetitive, it's got solid gameplay and is a perfect gap-filler for a quick gaming fix.

Apparently, it's a sequel or spin-off of SteamWorld Dig, which I haven't played. So if you've played Dig and enjoyed it, you may like this one too. If not, I still recommend checking out Heist for its fun and accessible gameplay.

I quite enjoyed SteamWorld dig (I think we got it free with PS Plus in the early days of PS4). Might check this out although, from your description, the only similarities between the two would seem to be the art style.

Haha I found the YouTube video for this.

I like how at the end he tells everyone to f*** off and unfollow him.

Anyone excited for The Witness? I liked Braid's puzzles and loved its art design: it might be my favourite puzzle game after The Talos Principle. But those line mazes seem like the type of puzzle I wouldn't care for. Though I also thought TTP looked boring before I played it.

Those sorts of puzzle games just aren't for me - unless they have an interesting story (like The Swapper for example). I wasn't a huge fan of Braid - I get what he was saying, but I just didn't enjoy my time with it.

I had no idea what he was saying. I thought the writing was lame, ditto with The Swapper, though I liked it in TTP. The twist was cool but mostly because of how it was conveyed.

I found the Swapper boring. Gameplay didn't really change throughout the game, they just kept adding new abilities. I thought Braid had the better story.

I found The Swapper's story really interesting, but the complexity of the puzzles had me reaching for a walkthrough at some points - which, I personally had no problem with, otherwise I would never have been able to figure out the solutions by myself and thus, not gotten to the end of the story which I found quite brilliant.

I think there's a simplicity to Braid's story that can be appreciated at face value. Dont really have to look into it to enjoy it. Found the ending so clever in the whole notion that you are the bad guy. Even then, it's a good puzzle game that adds and twists the mechanics.

But I'm keen on the Witness. But not gonna get the game at launch unless I find it for like ~$20. Didnt think the game would be a full price title. Not that im complaining about it, it's the same price point as The Talos Principle.

If it delivers on good puzzles and good length, then I see no problem with it being the price it is.
