I've had a Wii U for half a year and just now noticed the stylus at the back of the gamepad. I've been using the butt of a pencil the entire time. |

I grabbed Uncharted: Fight for Fortune during the PSN store Christmas sales (it was only a few dollars, including the two expansions). It is a fairly basic card collectable card game with the cards themed around the various Uncharted games. The single player mode uses fixed decks against various opponents, which adds a bit of a puzzle element. I haven't played the online multiplayer yet, but it sounds like you can customise your deck there. It is a bit simpler than I thought it might be, but I can't really complain at the price I paid. What it did do was make me wish there was another Metal Gear Acid game: that series was a great mix of collectable card game and strategy game, and I wish there were more like that. If Konami would sell the two MGA games digitally, I'd probably buy them a second time to play on the Vita. One last weird bit of Fight for Fortune was finding that the last opponent in the single player mode was Sully's parrot Jose. Or more accurately, 5 Jose's. Edited by jamesh, Jan 16 2016, 11:01 PM.

Nnnnnfff. I'm playing Metroid Prime for the first time in years and it's so perfect. I can't think of any game with a better sense of progression; it's better than Zelda at its best. Every collectible feels like a small victory, and all collectibles matter. Its style of exposition is a touch of genius, rich with detail but entirely optional, and relying on the environment to perk your interest and better explain what's going on. The writing is deeper than most Nintendo games: I'd forgotten about the philosophical flourishes in the Chozo lore, and how the Space Pirates are relentless militaristic monsters. The music is pitch perfect in conveying the beauty and strangeness of the locales. Retro Studios haven't made a better game since (though Metroid Prime 2 comes close). Kicking myself for not grabbing them when they were on sale in 2015. |

The trilogy is $26 on the Wii Shop if you have a Wii U. |

I do. But it was $15 when it launched and I thought 'nah, I'll get it later on'. And now, because I have a bad 'game purchase' mentality, I look at the price of $26 and think, wow, that's too much (even though really, it's pretty darn great given Nintendo's history of not discounting their titles). |

Although I would consider them as some of my favourite games ever, I never actually finished any of the Metroid Prime games. I couldn't beat the final boss in the first and I got stuck at various points in the 2nd and 3rd where I couldn't figure out where to go next. I really need to replay them. |

I got stuck a lot in Metroid Prime 3. I think it's not nearly on the same level as the previous games for a number of reasons, but mainly because it's too easy to get lost and because it abandoned the understated, environment-dependent storytelling in favour of a straightforward military story in the style of Halo. I'm curious to replay Metroid Prime 2. I loved it but I've forgotten so much, and nobody seems to hold it in the same regard as the 1st. @Jingles, the Wii Shop is generally awful with the exception of Wii games which are surprisingly cheap for some reason. Anyway, $26 is a steal for the trilogy. EDIT: That said, I softmodded my old Wii and I'm playing it for free! I gave the game to my friend years ago and it was destroyed somehow. One day I'll buy it and install it and never play it. I've got too many games to get through before I touch on the Metroid games. |

Oh awesome, I might have to get this. I do miss the metroid prime games, they were great, the first two really benefited greatly from the improved controls of the Wii version. The hard copy of the trilogy is rare and expensive now, so I'm glad to hear that it's available cheap. |

One thing I like early in Prime is how you enter the Chozo Ruins and can only hear the wind and a few synth notes, creating a quiet tension. You make your way into the inner ruins and find your missile launcher and suddenly a beat and melody kick in to accompany the synth, bursting the tension and giving you a sense of forward momentum. It's just a background thing that's likely to affect you without you noticing it. The only thing that's aged is how you move and turn with the same control stick. |

I bought them on Wii but really disliked the wiimote controls. Does the Wii U version have the ability to go back to a more traditional control method? |

I finished it at 95% in just over 12 hours. It's shorter and easier than I remember. I only died once, against Ridley. I was surprised by how easy Metroid Prime's second form is: it has one easily dodged shockwave attack and occasionally spawns two metroids, and that's it. The first form is much harder. The gameplay and atmosphere have held up extremely well. It's probably my favourite GameCube game and favourite shooter, though I'll see what I think of Echoes. |

I only ever really played the Wii version of Echoes. It's really good but commits it's only substantial sin at the end where it makes you do some very annoying backtracking with cryptic clues to go get a bunch of things needed to progress. It's just a total momentum and pacing killer, just like those fucking retarded giant souls or whatever they were in DS2 where you had to go back and find those trees. It's also supposed to be harder than the first, which might be what you're after, but the alleged difficulty hike was apparently toned down for the Wii version. The whole shadow world stuff was pretty cool, though I remember finding it mildly annoying to traverse, because you have to keep shooting these bubble things to not get hurt. Just felt a wee bit arduous after a while. Otherwise, it's great, and it's legitimately arguable as to which one is better. I'd probably side with the first game due to it's more consistent enjoy-ability. |
