Started MAd Max today. Really enjoying the game but the checkpoint system sucks balls. Lost quite a bit of progress after dying because I went exploring during a mission. No checkpoints when clearing a camp, destroying a convoy, eliminating a sniper, etc. Made for a punishing experience when I went all the way back to an hour and a half earlier :(

Hmm. That seems a bit odd because when I played it it checkpointed every cleared camp, every eliminated sniper, every destroyed convoy. PC or console?

PC. I believe it's because of two things

1. I was doing the events during a mission rather than in the "free romaish" bit that opens up later.
2. I died during a race as opposed to outside. So I got the race over screen, then a death screen, then I was all the way back at Chumbucket's place.

I've just beeen very careful since then. Really ahte when games rely on autosave and don't allow me the option to save though.

File > Exit. Are you sure? You'll lose everything since your last save!

Fuck you game. Let me save and exit and this won't be a problem!

Really enjoying it anyway. Everything except the voice acting (and that one fsave point fuckup) is top notch!

Is there a better way to change cars? E.g. If I want to infiltrate a base using a captured car or use Dinky-Di to disable a minefield I currently have to go back to the base, select the car, then manually drive out there. If I use fast travel the car auto defaults back to the Magnum Opus. Also, if I'm out in a non Magnum Opus car and I want to change back I can't just use the flare. I have to fast travel to a location which is a little frustration and, imo, unecessary.

Would be nice if, by using the flare, you could select which car Chumbucket brought out to you.

Am I doing something wrong or is this the way you're meant to manage which car you use?

Not really. Unfortunately that's the only way of changing your car. You can eventually upgrade your car on the fly though. But to change the whole car, the only other way is to hijack it. That's it really.

I imagine the pitch for Zelda: Spirit Tracks was just the pitch for Phantom Hourglass with "boat" crossed out and "train" written in its place. It's the most formulaic Zelda. The first two major areas are called Forest Land and Snow Land.

But it's still fun. Zelda is good even when it's just, ahem, spinning its wheels. It does some cool stuff with the dual screens, even if it's a tad awkward on the Wii U. It's the most upbeat Zelda, never getting serious and just going for laughs, which is kinda neat but also drives home how peripheral it is. That said, the temple design is top notch, with great flow and some intuitive puzzles.

EDIT: The third area is Ocean Land. If the 4th area is Canyon Land this game follows the themes of Majora's Mask's areas in exact order.

I played that when they gave it free to XB1 gold members a while ago (which has all the content). Went through the whole thing on hard, though the cheetah enemy boss was probably the hardest bit (some of the challenge rooms were tricky though).

The jaguar boss? I just defeated him yesterday. I figure I have all the power ups now and am ready to challenge the final boss, so I am currently revisiting old locations and looking for hidden rooms and treasures before completing the game.

One of the things I love about Guacamelee is that when you're going through and trying to find the hidden rooms, the map gives you the colour of blockages that you need to use the specific power up for so you always know what you need to have to progress in areas.

To add to this comment, when you first play the levels you can tell that the area is inaccessible at that point. At first I was thinking how the he'll do I get to that place and as soon as you acquire new level up, it all makes sense.

Also when I got the goat climbing and goat flying power, it's an absolute breeze getting past moments of the game that were complicated to pass initially.

It's a very clever thought out platformer game considering its simplicity. The combat system isn't too shabby either.

It's logical progression of power up's alongside logical level progression. You're never having to needlessly back track too much thanks to the power ups making each level feel new and fresh after opening up new areas.

Are you playing the original or the Super Championship Edition?

Original, bought the game before the re release. Was thinking of picking up the newer version on recent steam sale but even at $1.99 I didnt want to start over again.
