Yeah Darksider 2's art style and the structure of it's open world looks a hell of a lot more like what I'm after, from what I've seen. I may try that one out at some point.

Just wait until you get to the part where it starts to feel like a Portal clone instead. They borrowed ideas from a lot of different games in Darksiders.

I'll never understand why - out of all the games out there - there is a Darksiders 2 HD remake coming up. Also... being released in the next few weeks. Makes no sense whatsoever. Maybe if it were released a few months ago when it was quiet it might have gotten some interest, but around the time that Fallout 4/Battlefront come out? Nope. Dead in the water.

Played a few rounds of Rocket League last night and I had some of the best matches I've played in a while. Played against the same three guys for a bit and was on a team with a friend and another guy who all managed to co-operate. It was a really enjoyable and exciting challenge as both teams really played hard. Looking forward to rewatching the videos of them.

The only non zelda game I've played that really captured it's feel (and still felt like it's own thing) was Okami on Wii. What a great game.
The DS one (Okamiden I think) is also quite good. Uses the stylus instead of waggle to paint your symbols so, for me, it was much more enjoyable.

If you like that you should check out 3D Dot Game Heroes too

Among the usual Destiny when I get time I've started playing a few of this month's PS+ games - Grow Home, Unmechanical Ext, and Broken Age

Grow Home - Haven't played with it much but I'm not enjoying the controls, or the gameplay, or the horrible graphics. Game gets a lot of acclaim though so I'll stick with it longer to see if I end up enjoying it.

Broken Age - I think I'm just past the point of point and click games with nonsensical solutions. As Andy said on a previous page - it's not quite at Sam and Max level of problem resolution however I don't feel the goals are particularly clear and I'm not interested enough in the world or characters to spend too much time exploring clicking the on screen items in the right combination to get my character to do the right thing. I mean, I like the stories, but the characters feel like they draw it out a bit much to keep my interest. Haven't figured out how to get off the cloud island thing (trying to find an egg) with the girl and have only just broken out of the repeating loop with the boy (this morning)

Unmechanical Extended - This one is right up my alley. Looks great and the puzzles are introduced/taughtto you as you play rather than with obvious tutorials. I've been stumped a couple of times but have been able to voercome each just by looking at my surroundings more closely. With a limited number of things to interact with and intuitive methods to teach you what you can use I'm finding it really engaging

Few months back I was playing some Telltale games. Managed to complete Back to the future and started with Monkey Island. The biggest difference between the two besides some improvements to the UI and hint system and some minor visual improvements was the puzzle design.

This made a massive difference in my enjoyment between the two games. Back to the future puzzles were quite logical and had a handy hint system, whilst Monkey Island's puzzles are just straight up bizarre. I had to visit a FAQ/walkthrough for almost all the puzzles where it got to the point no matter how much I thought for myself it wasnt going to work and it hindered my progression.

I love Monkey Island and have fond memories of the first 2 classic games but this time around it wasnt working for me. I will get back into the final 2 episodes and finish the game off because the story is worth it.

I finished off Broken Age on the weekend. The PS4 version hasn't really been adapted to a controller, so feels even more point and click than recent Telltale games. The Vita port probably works better using the touch screen.

It was interesting seeing how the story finished, having played the first act back when it was originally released. The puzzles in the second half are definitely tougher, and I looked up tips for a few online. For example, one part I thought was just a pop culture reference to "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" was crucial to completing one of the puzzles.

You mean figuring out the sewing pattern by matching each point with the notes of that tune Alex plays? Yeah that was ludicrous.

Yep. I had assumed that getting Alex to play the tune at the appropriate point would cause something to happen, rather than it being disconnected like that.

I know there were complaints about the puzzles in the first act being too easy. I think they probably went a bit far in the other direction for act 2.

Regarding Grow Home - give it a while. I think you might not be in the right mind to play it at the moment. I personally loved it and was really tempted to give it a 9.5, but went with 8.5 instead. The controls take a bit to get used to but I found they worked wonderfully. Also, not sure what you mean regarding 'horrible graphics'. It looks perfect to me. Maybe it's just the art style you don't like?

Unmechanical Extended is nice enough. Very easy to play I think. Nothing really strenuous to be honest.

Started on Yoshi's Wooly World. Man... this game... so fucking good. Although I'm getting a little tired of Nintendo's layout for platformers (eg. regular normal green world first, desert world second... etc...)

Grow Home - The way your character walks through objects and the camera angle flies all over the shop. Simplistic graphics are one thing but this is full of jaggies and poor clipping. Hell, when you hold the flower it goes through your own head!

I don't mind simplistic graphcis but that game's style does feel a bit "proof of conceptey" to me. Other games have had very simplistic graphics but took the time to add the polish so they worked well. Grow Home doesn't give me that vibe.

Unmechanical - I may have been a bit premature with my praise as I think I'm nearly done. Feels like I've just played the leadup demo teaching you how to play though so I'm hoping not...

I really enjoyed Woolly World which was strange for me as I didn't enjoy Yoshi's Island. Then again I played that on 3DS and that console doesn't suit platformers very well IMO.

Funny how Nintendo stick with their "tried and true" formula for things like that.

Weird, I don't remember running into any of those issues with the camera or clipping.

I almost shelved the game after 30 mins, but decided to give it another chance. I'm glad I did, as it turned out to be a really fun little game in the end. Hopefully, it catches on for you too.

Broken Age is really growing on me although I'm still finding the back and forth a bit laborious. Also the touch controls are a bit wierd and often have my character doing the wrong thing.

I should have started with Shay. His story is muc more interesting IMO

I get what you're saying but I personally didn't have any clipping issues - or if I did, I didn't notice them. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am looking forward to playing it again.

Unmechanical is short. It took me hardly any time whatsoever to complete it. It's fine, and deserving of the 6/10 I gave it. A sleepy little game to play.
