That kind of acoustic, pensive music just grates with me. I did like the montage song though.

At the start of episode 2 you can hear a sweet hip-hop track coming from Victoria's room. Say what you will, she's got taste.

I'm trying to recall what happened in episode 1. Wasnt there an RV in the carpark of Blackwell? Not sure why it was there, I think I recall that there was an achievement related to interacting with it and taking one of the optional photos.
Yeah, you're offered a decision to draw or not draw a message on the window of the RV (with consequence). If you draw, you can then take the optional photo for an achievement.

Three episodes in and I still have mixed feelings. The game kept reminding me of Deadly Premonition until I realized they are both influenced by Twin Peaks. It has the same small-town-with-underlying-tensions aesthetic, which is nice. I'd also compare it negatively to Beyond Two Souls, in that it relies on cliches and it has non-realistic approaches to real situations, but it's nowhere near as bad or ridiculous, ever, not even close. I don't feel invested in the narrative or compelled by the mystery. The most interesting thread to me is Warren's nerdy advances and the uncertainty regarding Max's feelings towards him. I was invested in the Kate Marsh stuff and felt it jumped to its conclusion when it deserved more time. I think what the game is best at is good scenes, usually the little expository moments like walking down the dark dormitory hallway and exploring the school in general. I'm more interested in where it's going to take me than in what's going to happen. I don't mind Max but don't care about her, while Chloe sucks and lol at the end of episode 3.

Also, I've been out of school for a while but are kids really saying "amazeballs" and "much want" and shit, or is it just stupid writing?

I think (or more hope) that they only say it ironically.

Yeah, the writing is hella inconsistent. But I feel it it finds itself in Episode 3/4, where it even starts to make fun of itself.

The writing was at its worst during earlier episodes. I'm surprised that wasnt the first thing you mentioned about its flaws. It just came across as being what some 40 year old would imagine what youths would speak like. But I just overlooked it since some of it was funny and fits the teen fiction setting it has in an exaggerated way. I also cant really past judgement on what American school kids in Washington/Seattle and Oregon/Portland are like, because its supposedly hipster central, Arcadia Bay is somewhere in Oregon. One thing I think the game does convincingly is the exposition within messaging/social media and the odd graffiti everywhere.

I did have fun looking up some terms like Amazeballs or Shaka Brah in UrbanDictionary, though.

I felt it was an older person's idea of what young people might say, conflating how they speak in social media with how they actually speak.

I forgot to mention that in Chloe's backyard you can hear dogs barking in the neighbourhood and the barks caused my dog to wake up and run out the doggy door to bark back at the dogs, which she must have thought were outside. My other dog just kept sleeping on the couch.

GOOD IDEA!

I've tried to finish MGS Peace Walker a few times (PSP, Vita and 360), but never seem to be able to. I'm not sure why, it's a great game.

As for Ground Zeros, I recommend you play it. It should only take 30-60 minutes to complete the main quest and acts as a nice tutorial for the Phantom Pain.

Yeah I agree, the 15fps it runs at makes it look really cinematic, they really outdid themselves. The Order 1886's sequel will need to really pull out all the stops to get it to 10fps or below to get the crown back and take us to the new level of cinematic gaming. Hopefully by the next generation of consoles we can reach the mythical negatives frames!

I started playing Assassin's Creed Unity on the weekend. Given all the bad press when the game was released, I was happy to find the game plays fairly well after having been patched.

Compared to the old games, the visuals are impressive, and the city feels a lot more dense (including a lot more people on the streets). On the down side, the added density makes the map look a bit overwhelming with the number of icons visible at the default zoom level. Presumably it will thin out a bit as I go.

The movement feels like an improvement over the previous games, and I especially like the new ways of descending buildings (as opposed to just jumping into a haystack). I'm also having to get used to the new combat, where I seem to be dying a lot easier than before. Perhaps that'll make stealth actually worthwhile for more than just ticking off a few optional objectives.

I was a bit surprised to see all the microtransaction options in the character customisation/upgrade menus. I haven't seen anything that requires microtransaction currency yet, and hopefully they haven't set the in-game prices stupidly high to try and force you to spend money.

I've only tried playing one co-op mission, and it found a match fairly quickly. I think I'll need to get some better gear for my character before trying again though, given what the other players had. I enjoyed the old AC multiplayer quite a bit though, so I'm not sure what I think of this as a replacement.
