Started playing Alien Isolation. They certainly nailed the aesthetic, that's for damn sure. Looks and runs quite well. Too early to talk about gameplay yet but I'm reasonably impressed so far.

I can honestly see myself giving Assassin's Creed Rogue a shot since to my understanding that port was a lot better and it has the naval gameplay.
Spoke too quickly on this I think. Uninstalling AC4 after 22 hours due to boredom and the quite frankly totally unwanted Assassin part of the game rearing it's ugly head. I just want to be a pirate! I don't care about your ideals or creed, I just want to amass gold, power, and an awesome ship. Even that has lost it's charm, it's definitely fun but it's now just repetitious. The poor performance of the game got more annoying the more I played, too. It really is a sub-par port, but hey, it's not like I was playing Arkham Knight. But overall, this honestly would have been a better game if the Assassin's Creed part of it had just fucked off. The combat by comparison to The Witcher 3 and any of the Batman Arkham games is bad. The assassinations are boring and totally uninspired. The tired cycle of "climb to the top of these things to unfog the map" is just arduous because you're doing it on the most unimpressive structures imaginable half the time. On certain islands you literally just climb up a particular tree! It's so forced. The modern day Abstergo shit is just a snore as well. If all that shit was just cut and they made the general pirate experience deeper it would have been cool as fuck. Honestly, Ubisoft should make a balls to the wall straight up pirate game.

But anyway... man, Assassin's Creed really is such a tired series. Who the fuck is buying these endless sequels? Even me coming into 4 with so many news things from 2 couldn't hold my attention for it's full duration. Still got over 20 hours of relative enjoyment for $10 though, so I can't exactly say it was a bad experience.
lol

I had trouble with the PC versions of the series as well. AC3 would not correctly map the buttons to the xbox controller and grant no ability to remap them either. Strangely AC2 the following Ezio stories worked perfectly fine and had the same button layout as the Xbox. I know that in AC3 they did change the controls on all platforms but on PC it was completely different so I just gave up on it entirely and bought the PS3 version.

Since then I have seen plenty of opportunities to pick up AC4 for about $5 on Steam but I refuse to take the plunge, because the controller issue on this game still exists. Many people were reverting to emulation using xpadder and I have the software myself but its just inexcusable. To make matters worse and you clearly pointed out, its a console port. So how did they fuck up such a simple task of getting the buttons right.

I even tried modifying the .ini settings and although it did change the buttons layout, the actual mapping was still setup wrong anyway. It was just too much effort to figure it out.

After completing AC3, I felt satisfied enough to wrap the series up and I have played them all up to that game. Since the Desmond story has been wrapped up, all I see AC is as annual cash cow for ubisoft just using different time pieces to sell the story, but as much as I loved in AC to visit different cities and absorb the history and atmosphere, I really need Desmond story arc to keep it meaningful.

There's controller issues? I played AC4 with my 360 controller and it worked flawlessly.

It works but the button layout is all wrong. Felt wrong. Every AC game played with xbox controller, first 2 games on Xbox itself and the AC2 side story sequels worked fine on PC. AC3 was completely different on PC and I know as soon as I played it on PS3 it was normal again.

For example on my PC copy to turn camera on the x axis was bumper buttons for fuck sake, the right analogue stick did something else entirely.

I uninstalled the game, reinstalled it over and over again thinking it was a bad install.

That's very weird, all the layouts were normal for me.

Beat that Ginso escape part of Ori and the Blind Forest. It was challenging, but it didn't take me long. Probably 8 or 9 tries all up. Not really that rage-inducing. Anybody who quit the game and uninstalled at that point (and I've read of a few people doing that) is kinda weak. It's not that hard.

Just finished Dead Space 2. Despite being thoroughly unscary (just startling) throughout, the last 20 minutes or so were actually very intense with the amount of enemies (especially unkillable ones) and makes you feel very vulnerable, it forces you to run. It really came down to the wire for me getting to the very end of the game with no medpacks and half a bar of health. Quite enjoyed the game overall.

Also tried Metal Gear Rising Revengeance but I just cannot get into it. It's just not my type of game. I like how over the top it is but the really basic, linear level design and the very button mashy feeling combat just left me with absolutely no reason to play it.

Yeah, Alien Isolation is really good. It is legitimately scary, but it's also a quite enjoyable stealth game at the same time. I know some people had issues with the save system, I think it actually works well, it's probably the main source of the tension and it's a relief to get to a save station. I also like the androids, they're pretty cool. They're obviously not as threatening as the Alien but I still think they're quite intimidating, and they're by no means easy to kill. Avoiding them is the way to go.

Also started playing Human Revolution Director's Cut, been almost 4 years since playing the Vanilla version. It holds up so far, though certain elements of the graphics have really aged. Mainly the way some of the animations during dialogue are crappy looking, and some of the texture work on certain characters is pretty bad, it definitely wasn't good in 2011 either. It otherwise looks quite decent today. This version is supposed to have the golden filter toned down significantly, which it certainly seems to. I look forward to getting to the boss fights to see how the remedied them. Should also be cool having the DLC integrated into the game rather than separate.

It took me awhile to beat the Ginso Tree chase scene because it ended up saving and starting that sequence while I only had 2 circles of health. I died quite abit of times from hitting things rather than getting swallowed up by the water or failing a jump

It's still a really steep difficulty spike, but I think it fits as a great closure to the area, adding an exciting 'boss fight' to cap off the quieter and clever challenges beforehand.

It's probably the hardest chase sequence in the game. The rest arent as tricky, still hard and have more demanding scripted events that I feel are impossible to prepare for on the first run. Or it could just be that I had more health in the others to start with

It's like a nicely polished Yoshi's Island. I'm absolutely loving it however I didn't really like Yoshi's Island so that's strange. Quite easy but it's so damn fun!

Currently playing The Witcher 3, Yoshi's Woolly World and Destiny.

Witcher 3 - Started again after my review play and am putting more thought into decisions as well as exploring a lot more.

Yoshi's Woolly World - Bought it for the kids Youtube Channel but they can fuck off and play it when I'm finished :) They're pretty hooked on Splatoon anyway so it suits us both well.

Destiny - Some friends convinced me to play again. Story is still terrible but I enjoy the game itself. Lots more fun with other people and the DLC is meant to fix a lot of the games "play this level on repeat" problems.

Just started The Walking Dead Season 2 last night.

Pretty good opening episode, rather predictable ending. Still feel the formula is tired now, especially its QTEs which I found the first to be annoying but I eventually got used to it again. Coming off from The Life is Strange games, the complete lack of exposition with the environment/locale is really noticeable, which is something that I'd like more as this game does very little in that area.

TWD2 is fine, but what was great about season 1 was the Clem/Lee dynamic, and without it the story lags and the stakes are less dramatic. Looking back on both, I distinctly remember what happens in each chapter of season 1 while season 2 is a blur with fewer highlights. It's good, but I don't think Telltale has managed to make anything close to as good as TWD1.

I like how a character can remember what you said to them in The Witcher 3 and the game doesn't say they'll remember it. I told some random jerk I was headed for Novigrad (I wasn't) and then when I showed up at the gates of Crow's Perch, which he was guarding, he called me a liar.

Yeah, I honestly preferred The Wolf Among Us to Walking Dead 2. It was still good, though.
