Yeah. The story is good but it's like the writer was insecure about being pretentious so he introduced an asshole character who rolls his eyes at anything sentimental.

Yeah, the dialogue here is just awful at times. It really detracts from the story to be honest.

The dialogue is middling. The story's strength lies in the plotting. It could've easily come across as sappy but it's plotted in a way that draws you in emotionally.

The funny thing about To the Moon is that you can't even say what it's really about to someone who hasn't played it because that would ruin the full weight of the drama.

I played a bit more of Borderlands 2 over the weekend, and got as far as meeting Tiny Tina.

I realise that co-op is a primary focus of the game, but I don't seem to remember having as much trouble playing solo in the first game. I was having a lot of trouble with the missing "A Dam Fine Rescue" where you first face off against a constructor robot. I grew to really hate the endless stream of EXP loader robots, who run up to you and explode, only to hold back out of range when I need a kill to get a second wind. In co-op this wouldn't result in the boss's health bar resetting, and my team mates would also have had a chance to revive me.

The suicide psychos also behave in a similar fashion to the EXP loaders, but I didn't seem to have as much trouble with them.

On a positive note, I like that the game is giving a bit of personality to the protagonists from the first game.

I agree James - I know it's a game that's 'better as co-op', but I feel that it makes trying to play it as a single player game really difficult. I enjoyed parts of it, but unless you're playing with someone all the time then it makes for a chore to play against respawning enemies all the time. There was one point where I had to pass through an area, but a boss that I'd beaten previously kept respawning because that's how the game works. It made it impossible to pass the area with the boss there.

I guess I must be a bit slow, because it took me a while to realise that the name "EXP Loader" == "exploder". Given all the other "___ Loader" robots, I wasn't looking for the pun.

The writer also seemed very insecure of whether or not the thing he developed was a game or not.

Hence the silly puzzles and that totally jarring Zombie section around the end. It was probably my biggest beef with To The Moon.

Borderlands 2 being not fun when played alone is legit. They put in the feature to allow you to do that, but never balanced the encounters (or quests) to accommodate solo play difficulty or pacing.

That's what really irritated me about the game. There was no need for that plants versus zombies moment. That and other elements ruined what could have been a great game.

I feel it's because they focused too much on the jump in/out play aspect. I do wonder if they managed that better for the vita version.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it isn't fun: I'm still playing after all. I just feel that Gearbox did a better job at balancing the solo experience in the first game.

Even for co-op focused games like this, solo play is still fairly important. It is a large game, and you'd need some dedicated friends to make the time to play through the whole thing together. Handling solo play well lets someone who misses a session to catch up on their own.

That ruined it for you? I found it irritating but hardly enough to ruin my experience.

Playing more Wolfenstein the New Order (when I get the chance). Really impressed with it although sometimes they make Blazkowicz a little too "meat headish" for my liking. Like, at the end of chapter 14, when he's meant to be sneaking into a base and you have to damn near kill everyone to proceed. Then, at the end of the chapter, you have to escape aboard a craft. You kill three fgiant robots in front of it then jump on board. The pilot apparently missed all this and is radioing home to say you are dead. Instead of staying in hiding you bust in the door (in the middle of his transmission) and kill him. So now you have to drive this thing you have no idea how to drive AND you've notified everyone at the destination that you're not dead and have just killed the fucking pilot!

Still. Fun game :) I especially like when you have a nightmare and get to do this

Has anyone else here finished it and, if so, did you play through both timelines? I saved the Scottish dude and only recently noticed there's a whole new 14 chapters if I save the other guy. Was curious as to whether they're actually any different.

Wait til you read my review. ;)

I felt at that point in the game, it should have dropped the 'here's a game reference' GIANT WINK and stuck with the serious story that they had going. It ruined all immersion.

I played through both timelines. I think the Scottish guy was the older man right? Well, his version is better than the other guy. The other isn't too different it just gives you a few alternative routes and collectibles. I actually really enjoyed both playthroughs.
