I'm pretty deep into it now. I'm up to the fourth boss. It's a fun game but I don't like how you're forced to grind. In BoI you can pretty much win from the start, whereas you'll reach a boss in RL and realize you're not going to be able to seriously fight it for a few hours. In BoI you won't win for a long time because you lack skills and knowledge; in RL you just haven't beefed up your stats enough...

Not to say it's not a solid, enjoyable romp.

1. The new jumping controls feel kinda awkward. Tapping B again whilst holding it to sprint felt a lot easier than having to press the control stick down.
You can change it back to tapping B again. I agree, the stick thing was odd so I'm glad you can go back to pressing B again

2. I don't like having to return to a person to level up rather than just being able to level up at any bonfire.
I think it's for story purpose? Not too sure. Only thing I can think of is now you have to decide to press on or go back to safety. Not saying it's better/worse. I'm not sure where I stand on this basically :p

3. Free equipment repairs at bonfires? Seems OP at first glance, but your gear seems to wear much faster as well so I suppose it's just a different direction in game design.
I didn't notice the equipment degradation mainly because of my choice of equipment. Free repairs is a bit OP tho

4. Having the ability to teleport right from the start just feels too generous... The first game gave you this ability after you'd spent hours slogging it out in the game world and you knew it like the back of your hand, and not even as a reward, but due to the practical reality of where you'd have to go to get the great souls for the lordvessel. However I may find this to be fine, as the areas so far seem a lot less intertwined and linked with each other than DS1, so maybe it's just an inherent part of the world design this time. The estus flask being so much worse this time is more evidence pointing towards the idea that they don't want you to travel by foot everywhere.
I like this feature mainly because you spend so much time in the world and it is pretty spread out. They could have given you teleport later but I'm glad they didn't :)

5. The game (so far) seems significantly more generous with the frequency of bonfire placement, which leads me to believe that this game is going to be easier. Hopefully that's not the case, because DS1 was hard but quite fair.
People will probably agree with you. I don't think it's significantly easier, I think it's more refined

It's a great game and by far my favourite in the series. Have fun :)

With the speed my gear degraded I found this to be extremely useful... and kind of annoying. Forced me to take numerous weapons into some areas as, of course, resting at a bonfire also repairs all the bad guys too

Yeah I'd hoped there was a way to change the jump controls, I just didn't bother looking. Changed it, much better now.

I'm sure it is for story purpose, but my problem is that it's entirely arbitrary busywork. To teleport back to her you have to be at a bonfire anyway. It's an extra step that seems unnecessary and will probably get annoying very quickly.

Dark Souls: Go to your nearest bonfire to level up, an press on after you're done.
Dark Souls II: Go to your nearest bonfire to teleport to the designated leveling up area so that you can immediately teleport back to where you came from and press on after you're done.

I just really don't have much patience for poor game design decisions like that which are made for story purposes, especially since I couldn't tell you the first thing about the story of either Dark Souls game.

I think the idea behind it is to turn Majula into a full-fledged hub for upgrades and items. It's still annoying though. I prefer the mood and simplicity of Firelink Shrine.

I think Majula is nice, it's certainly picturesque. I have no problem returning to it for buying stuff or reinforcing items, but having to do it for every level up seems unnecessary.

But whatever, it's a small gripe overall. I'm really enjoying the game so far, I've beaten the first two bosses without dying luckily. That awesome feeling of progressing when you're stuck is what this game is all about.

I think, as Tim mentioned, it's to force you back to the hub so you can see people who have relocated and other new options that have become available. Without having to retrun for levelling you might not see that

Well if you filthy casuals had played Demon's Souls you'd know they wanted to return to the original idea of The Nexus as a world hub where you could do everything you would need. The idea was that you would prepare by leveling up and buying any items you needed and then set out on an adventure. When you returned you would see the fruits of your labour. I always felt it was more satisfying to return and gain 10 levels at once, upgrade your items a shit load and find all the people you met on your adventure.

I think Dark Souls 2 did a good job of combining the open world of Dark souls 1 with the hub/world system of Demon's Souls.

Anyone else got this annoying flickering cog on the Vita version of Rogue Legacy?

In the PS4 version it isn't flickering but it's always there. Pretty dumb oversight.

Damn. Seems the pperfect game for portable play on the Vita. I guess static is better than flickering though so PS4 it is.

It's the cross save and networking feature. Fuckit. Nice to have but I'm happier turning it off and having no cog :)

I started playing Borderlands 2 on the weekend. I've had it for a while but never got around to starting it, and thought I should before looking at Tales of the Borderlands.

I got as far as killing Captain Flynt. I died a lot in that battle, with the infinitely respawning psychos making it difficult to pick a strategy. I was playing as the sniper character, and ended up using his special decoy/melee attack followed by running around waiting for my shield to recharge. I'm sure there was a better way, but I was dying too quickly to come up with a better strategy.

IronFall: Invasion is now available for the 2DS/3DS. It's a free download that gives you a short campaign demo that you can continue after purchasing the full unlock. There's also online multiplayer for up to six players. It looks like you can purchase the campaign and multiplayer modes separately for $13.00 each or both for $26, which includes some additional bonuses.

Just hit a stage on Super Mario 3d World which I can tell is going to give me the shits and lots of trouble passing. I've completed the main game though I am now doing the special levels and im stuck on the final level on flower world where you have to defeat 6 bosses in the given time.

Beating them is easy but beating them all in the time is tough. This might be time to move onto new game.

Been an amazing game though overall.

Peach best character.
