Finished XCOM. While it remained tense and there were a bunch of close calls with my soldiers, it was generally very easy in the latter half. The first half is actually harder because you're scrambling to build satellites while beefing the team up and your resources are limited. After that you can just ease up and make sure you're careful. I think I'll play again in Classic difficulty for a more balanced experience. The last mission was kind of hard. I almost got completely fucked over when a sectopod inexplicably caused an explosion from beneath where my psionic volunteer was standing, dropping her to 1 health. He wasn't in anyone's sights so I have no idea what happened. The last enemy standing put Butt Diggity under mind control but Leonard Smallpeen saved her before she could use her beefy powers against anyone. Edited by Moo, Feb 2 2015, 01:56 PM.

Classic mode is retarded. There needs to be a difficulty between Classic and Normal. |

Yep, this is ridiculous. The thin men shouldn't be capable of one-hitting my sergeants, for Christ's sake. There are possibly tactics I'm not aware of that make combat more manageable but I can't be assed to figure them out. |

So I downloaded Transistor and Rogue Legacy from PSN Plus and now both appear as Transistor in the game library. I started playing Rogue Legacy and every now and then I receive trophies for Transistor, while Rogue Legacy doesn't even appear in the trophy section. I think it must just be giving me trophies based on a corresponding number or something, like if I achieve trophy 4 in Rogue Legacy it gives me trophy 4 in Transistor. I don't want to fix it or anything because I don't care about trophies, but it's funny that I'm unlocking rare Transistor ones for doing basic stuff in RL. RL is fun too. I also downloaded Apotheon. It's the first Plus month in a while I'm happy with. Edited by Moo, Feb 7 2015, 01:35 PM.

Apotheon looks pretty cool. I should probably play more of Rogue Legacy, I only got about half an hour in, which I don't think is enough time to get a feel for it. I played a bit of Battlefield Hardline last night. It was alright. One thing I don't like is the leveling. I played for 30 minutes and I'm already level 5. I've played 70 hours of BF4 and I'm only level 30. Leveling up that fast is just so meaningless. |

Just played a round then. Man, love this game already. I agree that the leveling feels a little odd - my first round I leveled up to level four straight away which is fine, but it was only a fifteen minute round. I think they might just be trying to give everyone a feel of the classes quickly. |

I played Apotheon for 30 minutes. It's okay, but I don't know if I'll play it again. The movement and combat are awkward; nothing feels smooth. It certainly looks and sounds very good. |

I started playing Dark Souls 2 yesterday, seems quite cool so far. It's certainly more polished, that's for sure. The graphics are certainly noticeable nicer (I actually remember reading someone saying that they were inferior to DS1, what the fuck? Art style I could entertain the idea of, but technically they're objectively superior), the actual zones are a lot more immediately interesting, and the movement and combat feels marginally more fluid and less choppy which is nice. I also like that you're punished more for being hollow in the form of decreased health. I felt like there was never really much reason to bother reversing hollowing in DS1, maybe this change will make it so there is. Oh, and the PC version is much better. Runs at a solid 60fps max settings with no tinkering, good job From! There's a few things I'm unsure about, though. 1. The new jumping controls feel kinda awkward. Tapping B again whilst holding it to sprint felt a lot easier than having to press the control stick down. 2. I don't like having to return to a person to level up rather than just being able to level up at any bonfire. 3. Free equipment repairs at bonfires? Seems OP at first glance, but your gear seems to wear much faster as well so I suppose it's just a different direction in game design. 4. Having the ability to teleport right from the start just feels too generous... The first game gave you this ability after you'd spent hours slogging it out in the game world and you knew it like the back of your hand, and not even as a reward, but due to the practical reality of where you'd have to go to get the great souls for the lordvessel. However I may find this to be fine, as the areas so far seem a lot less intertwined and linked with each other than DS1, so maybe it's just an inherent part of the world design this time. The estus flask being so much worse this time is more evidence pointing towards the idea that they don't want you to travel by foot everywhere. 5. The game (so far) seems significantly more generous with the frequency of bonfire placement, which leads me to believe that this game is going to be easier. Hopefully that's not the case, because DS1 was hard but quite fair. Despite point 4, I think the "started with nothin'" feeling is still intact which hopefully indicates the satisfying progression of strength is intact as well. I went with the Knight class and I feel piss weak compared to my late game pyro in DS1. tl;dr I'm cautiously optimistic about this game, small bugbears notwithstanding. 4. While DS1's areas looped into each other, DS2's branch out from Majula until they reach end points, which is why fast travel is available straight away; it'd just take too long to backtrack. It's a bit of a shame because I loved those moments in DS1 where you'd suddenly happen upon familiar territory and slowly get a sense of the world's cohesiveness over time. 5. I'd say they are about as hard as each other, though DS2 can be a little unfair in this regard (some of the enemies aren't as fun to adapt to and enemy placement is a little less inventive than in DS1). But ragging aside, it's still a great game have fun. |

Interesting. I really enjoyed it so far. Looking forward to blasting through it. Has a very guacamelee feel to it. |

I might play it again but having sampled it today alongside Transistor and Rogue Legacy it's definitely my third favourite. RL is very fun but having finally grown tired of Binding of Isaac I'm not sure I'm up for another roguelike. Transistor is awesome. |

Just over halfway through Kick & Fennick. Loving it so far, but man, this difficulty spike... whoa... going to have to clear the levels and then go back for the collectibles I think. Great fun so far. |

If you hated flying enemies in Videogames. You'll hate them even more in Rogue Legacy. Also, yeah, typical videogame trope of getting eaten by a treasure chest. Edited by Red Panda, Feb 8 2015, 08:53 PM.
